This is where-- in the United States-- you need to talk to a local lawyer about what the state laws and precedent have established; it gets strange and wild.

Luck or Destiny?

Luck or destiny its all about taking opportunities when they come your way, and it would seem like you're on top of that. Best of luck to you, and I agree with the other guy, it would be a shame indeed if somehow you mistakenly thought you were sticking that script, resume, and headshot in your back pocket and it somehow, someway made its way into that pile. My God, the horror of that, the horror.

Directors and Copyright

Owning the "rights to your likeness" when you're in the public arena isn't necessarily the case ... there are many photographs of celebrities that I can purchase various rights to use in any way I wish - from the copyright holder (who is the photographer or the company the photographer was working for at the time the image was shot, which could in some cases, be the person who's likeness it is). The actual...

Unless I missed it, it seems the singer does not have copies of the footage you shot, only the footage that was shot by the other director. In which case you could do this : Offer a swap. She gets to use your footage to combine whatever version she wants with her new footage and you get to cut a version to your liking and upload it. If she says no they then have to shoot their own version and you refuse their access to your footage and just...

Lighting

Go to Home Depot. They have various 500-watt outdoor lights that I believe sell for about $30 each. Buy stands, then some gels, barndoors and diffusers, and start experimenting to create various looks. When shooting in daylight, you'll need a daylight-color-balanced gel to simulate the color of the sun. HMI lights do this without gels, but are expensive. In movies, less is often more. When I look at today's modern movies, in small,...

How to become an asisstant director

And I'm assuming you know that an AD doesn't usually move up to being a director correct? ADs tend to become producers. Good sound starts in the script, not in post-production.

I've had such disasterous Craigslist experiences that I suggest avoiding it when hiring.
NowCasting and ActorsAccess are the places to go. The IMDb Pro boards, or the Actors Shop Talk boards might turn up a couple of interesting characters.

From previous experience of jobs gone bad its often better for your reputation to walk away than get involved in a situation where you require expensive professional legal advice. Is there honestly no way you can extend an olive branch and reach an amicable compromise with the artist?

Thanks, and the AFI Conservatory would be great, but does anybody know of any more "realistic" places? I mean, AFI, NYU, UCLA, etc. are all fantastic, but they are kinda the Harvards of film schools. Anybody know of more mid-level programs?

The slow motion in that clip was created in the editing program. You can tell because the movement is stuttery, not smooth. You can do this in Vegas by changing the speed of the clip, and it doesn't matter if the original footage was on tape or flash memory.
I've heard good things about the HV20, but if you are interested in inexpensive Canon cameras that shoot on flash memory, examine these...

One option is to use a pseudonym. The Coen Brothers for instance edit their own films, but they list themselves as Roderick Jaynes in the credits. Stanley Kubrick would work on the music to his films with his daughter Vivian, but would list Abigail Mead as the composer.
It is a common enough practice in situations like you describe.
