Fake guns
Published (2009-11-08 17:15:00)
At your age do something without weapons instead of any kind of weapons-- small mistakes have huge consequences. The "we're just going to be in the school basement" turns into "police report that the dead student was holding a fake gun" in a heartbeat. To make movies you need to be smart-- not doing something that sounds right but is really something stupid, and that means getting experts with...

How good does a blimp work?
Published (2009-11-03 17:23:00)
by - fionaman on Tue Nov 3 2009 10:35:34 I was wondering how good a blimp would work on a K3. Anyone know? A good blimp will work well on K3. A bad one will not work well. What would be the best route for me if I'm looking to shoot a 10 minute sound short? Should I just rent? No way to know the best route for you. Renting is a great option.

The scene isn't complete, the sound is a mess, there's a few shots that need to be extended, a few that need to be shortened, a few shots have to be refilmed So, and I mean this with no disrespect...but what would be the point of commenting on the scene, if the above things are still waiting to be done? I watched it...and seriously, there is no reason to comment on it, because yes, it needs all those things....which you apparently...

I haven't seen it, so for all I know, you're right. But the market doesn't lie. While you might not have enjoyed this one, a lot of people have. Isn't that what this business is about - finding audiences?

Fake guns
Published (2009-11-08 18:21:00)
Thanks, and another thing I was thinking of doing was either spray painting a water pistol black, doing the shots of the fake guns (if I use water pistols) very backlit so all you see is their silhouette and it looks like a real gun, or just doing the shooting offscreen or use some sort of trick photography, but I don't know how awkward that last one will be if I do end up doing that.... But yeah, about the teacher thing, the only camera...

I'm 27 and my dream is to direct, but circumstances have made it impossible for me to follow through.
Please forgive me, but that's B.S.
You have challenges and circumstances that makes
directing a short film difficult. So does EVERYONE.
But not one of them actually makes it impossible.
If you don't overcome all the challenges and

The sarcastic answer would be "You're so last century if you worry about PAL versus NTSC--"
Seriously, your capture needs to a defined HD capture standard, then it can be downgraded and reset to any broadcast or distribution standard in the world. If you use 1080x1920/24p you edit in 1080x1920/24p and it masters out that way, too, and can be put into any market standard in the world with ...

For starters...You have some promising talent.
That being said...
You would benefit from some crisper editing. You stay too long on some shots...or cut into some shots too early.
The second film...while watching the cell phone conversation, I thought there was no sound...and then it came up in the next scene. Mix the sound better.
Didnt finish that film...didnt hold my interest.
The last...

The cameras are very similar. Both shoot 1080P at 35Mps, and are viewed favorably. The JVC shoots on less expensive media and in a format that can be transferred directly into Final Cut Pro without any transcoding. But the Sony has 1/2" image sensors, as opposed to the JVC's 1/3", which gives a more cinema-like depth of field.
That said, I would strongly recommend hiring an owner/operator ...

First suggestion-- get an experienced stunt coordinator.
The reason is simple: Things can be done right with the right tools and everyone walks away happy-- but the right method, right tools, and someone making a small mistake might wind up with your picture at the head of a "Student actor dies during student film" article.
Telescoping items, angle of the shot, body gear, blood effects,...

When you say it wouldn't let you import the song what do you mean? Did you get an error message; and if so, what did it say?

I used a bunch of it years ago in a theatrical production, charging seltzer bottles. Fun stuff. But it doesn't last long as a floor effect, does it?
What was it about the scene that you wanted dry ice rather than a fog machine?
