What exactly is a director´s job?

A lot of great studio filmmakers had mediocre scripts and actors to work with but still made great films. Douglas Sirk? Edgar G Ulmer?

I haven't read Schindler's Ark so maybe my criticism shoud be directed there not on Spielberg. "Spielberg makes some of the most complex films of the big studios these days"...that's hardly a challenge though is it? Who's his competition? Michael Bay? Having said that, I would argue that David Fincher, Martin Scorsese, David O. Russell, Tim Burton, Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Wes Anderson are all Studio...

Problems adding music to FCE 4
Published (2009-10-31 22:17:00)
I'm finishing up a wedding video I did for a friend of mine, and the audio during some of the conversations is really bad, so I'm trying to cover it up with a song I wrote. But for some reason the only music that FCE will let me import is music that I bought from the iTunes store. Thats really ironic because I would have thought they'd have some copyrights issues or something. I tried to import from GarageBand and it still...

My top 100 directors
Published (2009-11-01 03:24:00)
If I dislike a film I usually don't check out that many more from he directors. The only big directors I truly dislike are Dreyer, Lucas and Raimi(though I liked Drag Me to Hell). Some unknowns I dislike include Jan De Bont and Rob Cohen. Have only seen 2 Uwe Bolls but he seems like a contender as well. I'm also not too fond of James Cameron. I find Wellman, Spielberg, Bresson, Levinson, Linklater and Burton to be extremely hit and...

Including the first 2 Transformers films, what are currently your 3 favorite Michael Bay directed films made so far and please separately say why, for each one named (as in for his direction, the script, cast, cinematography and any other factors). Please no smart ass replies.

Ive seen just about everything Steven has had his hands in and totally respect the guy. At the end of the day its his decision what happens, he's earned that I think and we have to accept it. My key concern is that perhaps those that work closest to him don't give him their true opinion when faced with possibilities in post production. In this I mean that just because the sky is the limit, doesnt mean we have to go there. The largest...

It's like they're all hands off for some reason, and yet that Jon and Kate and their children are on every magazine cover, every channel ad nauseum. Blech. People like you are the reason people like me take medication. --Jenna Leigh

That all looks true to form to me. Maybe he's finally realised he doesn't have the chops to make serious films and decided to stick to making blockbusters
