Family structure in japan culture
Published (2009-12-01 15:22:00)
I wouldn't reference Miyazaki's animes for a good portrayal of japanese families, they are very good movies but far from reality. Most of them are very light hearted because they are aimed at younger audience. I know that shouldn't be evaluating japanese based on fiction. But thats the only source I have and this is just a simple observation I have made, and I wanted to share it with others to have different thoughts on the...

I used to like his movies ALOT, not so much anymore. I think his movies are a good way to ease into enjoying anime, but after a while of him basically repeating the same themes in his movies it gets kind of old. Also, I predict in a decade or two, Mamoru Hosoda will be basically as famous as Miyazaki is today. (That is if he keeps directing, hopefully)

Saban VS. 4kids
Published (2009-11-29 11:57:00)
^ Saban's ruined a few animes over the years, but none of them were anything special and weren't very good to begin with. Heck, some of them weren't even that big a problem. 4Kid's, however, has much to answer for with One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh, and even Poke'mon , which I can't help but think would be better without the awful voice acting, crappy dialouge and mistranslation of stories

Be sure to read the manga of Gantz as well. Even more violence and sex past where the anime leaves off if that's a highlight for you, plus the story and characters get way better past where the anime leaves off (in episode 22), whereas the anime's filler ending was kinda meh. Just have faith in the you that believes in yourself. (formerly doctordoom85)

Interesting what you say about Turkish society; I suspect that, as with any society, every family is different. I'm British, I'm a Londoner. And I'm busy just now - let's continue this discussion later.

His stories all have interesting, unique, fantastic and downright trippy ways of doing things and he doesn't use the many, many cliches that infest the anime industry.

Odd you like Miyazaki and Mushishi. I've always found Miyazaki too catered to a young audience.
Anyways if you like Mushishi, check out Kino's Journey.

4Kids for their treatment of One Piece.
The only thing I remember Saban doing was Power Rangers and I guessing it maintained it's tone and style.
What 4Kids did to One Piece prevented it from making sense when dealing with Kuina & Bellemere, why did Zoro freak out when faced with Tashigi, why was Nami so motivated and those are only two examples.

I just saw it. It's not as good as The Girl Who Leapt Through Time , but definitely worth seeing. I'd rate it 7.8/10. Who else has seen it, and what did you think of it?
If anyone wants to see it, there's a torrent with English subs on tokyotosho. The subs aren't great, but it's watchable (though if you're not dying to see it, then I recommend ...
