I'd be the first one to dance in the street if this was going to happen, but sadly it isn't. BFI has informed that the set is not going to be released until at least autmn of 2010, maybe even later. It takes time, restoring all these old, largely abused films, but hopefully it's
worth the wait!

That's what you think. Die-hard fans of Chaplin would say that Keaton was merely a stuntman. Not that I think so. Both share the privilege of being the greatest comedians ever produced in my eyes. But my point is just that during the past forty years or so, the debate as to who is the best has caused fans of one to bash the other ...

Yeah, such a scene exists, but it isn't a toy he swallows, but a small flute; whenever he breathes, it squeakes, preventing a singer from doing his performance at a party. The scene is from his film
City Lights (1931).

I was surprised the first time too! I also like in the movie whenever he is tightening bolts and he tightens any that he sees and then a woman with two buttons on her chest walks by and he chases her down! I

Chaplin had it first. I've seen a photo of Hitler with a more generic mustache style, but Chaplin's little tramp first appeared in 1913 (maybe 14), and was world famous by 1916/17 the latest.

When I was just a pup, my dad had a super 8 film of "The Rink." My dad showed the old films he had every couple of months when we would get family home movies back from the developers. He had a bunch of old ones like old silent Popeye cartoons. I discovered more Chaplin films (all of them, actually) as I got older, but "The Rink" is the one that hooked me----
