That's awesome! I'm gay and I have a transgender uncle/aunt. I wish s/he had felt s/he could have come out earlier when I was growing up, but times were different then.

"It is not a sentence that was left unfinished." Actually, if you read the passage that George just quoted from the short story, it WAS left unfinished, as indicated by the dash. Which means it's up to any of us to complete the thought that Ennis couldn't express in words.

That's awesome! I'm gay and I have a transgender uncle/aunt. ------------ as a "counsellor on child support" one of my strangest cases was where a man ie a child's father, separated from the wife and had a sex change. The CSA were after "him" [as the FATHER still] to pay child support to "the other woman". it was so strange talking to her on the phone, ie with a woman's...

The script was true to the era ... suffer in silence with the knowledge. I am sure Jack's mother recognized that Jack was gay early on and would suffer in silence as you say. I am not sure Lureen would know for some time, if at all. It depends how sophisticated her gaydar was. If she suspected, I am sure she would also suffer in silence. However, we must remember that Lureen was married to her job and could very well have ignored what...

Watergarden, the stories are in Toycoon's "Jack with Ennis" thread that was deleted here. The thread is now over at Bettermost.net in the fanfic section. I'm afraid they may be a bit hard to find, as there are literally hundreds of tales in that thread. I'll find them for you and send you a link. Thanks for asking!

I'm sure all the film snobs here will descend upon me for saying so, though. Not that it required a crystal ball, but, yea, you nailed it. "Our Lady of Blessed Acceleration, don't fail us now!"

If it's not mindless 'action packed/horror/fantasy/violence', it will not play at my local multiplex, so I'll have to wait for the DVD. I too thought it sounded really good and worth seeing! Best Wishes Sam "Jack leaned against the steady heartbeat"

I was hooked on a lot of the fic and slash writings on BbM but seem to have lost interest in it. Especially that MadLaurie author. (I won't mention the site due to possible troll action.) Back during the period of devestaion I just wanted more on Jack/Ennis. Now that the trauma is past I seem to have lost interest in fic. It was good writing though. Begone trolls...

Of course she didn't influence the voting nor did Ebert run a campaign for 'crash'. He explained the situation pretty well in his 'aftermath' article. It is obvious that supporters and the likes of Dave Cullen, Michael Jensen are looking for complots that aren't there.

Thanks, George, for reposting this interview - especially as today, apparently, is Jake's birthday. It's was good to be able to read once more all those interesting details that Jake provides about the movie.

Crash is mediocre oscar bait. Brokeback Mountain will be a classic. But I think Munich shouldv'e won. Both very good movies that unfortunatley lost to Crash.

was nominated for several awards , including Best Picture, Best Actor (Heath Ledger) and Best Director (Ang Lee). How annoying! The writer is referring to the Academy Awards, as if that's the only award there is. Guess again. Here are the awards that it WON -- and unlike the bogus Oscars, these ones actually mean something: This is a list of honors for Brokeback Mountain. For the ...

Jack and Ennis were closeted homosexuals. Do you understand what that means? And Ennis in particular was homophobic and self-loathing. Ennis and Jack married and had kids because that's what they thought was expected of them. And are you really that naive to think that the boys had "emotional" relationships with their wives? Please. You and this "reviewer" obviously do not understand homophobia...

Well, my theory is that LD never knew and maybe Lureen found out only at the time of Jack's death. Lureen and Jack grew apart gradually. She took over the business and became obsessed with the details of the job. According to the short story, Jack was the salesperson and went to farm sales and conventions. LD Newsome eventually died and left the money to Lureen who allowed Jack to spend it ...

I have heard that complaint about 2005 before but tried to not take it seriously. Because of Brokeback, I once again became interested in films and followed the 2005 releases somewhat closely. I also liked Capote and Good Night and Good Luck, in large part because both focused on people in the news during my much younger years.
I liked Munich as well and was afraid it would steal the ...

People have been rewriting the endings to Xena, Star Wars, The Titanic, all sorts of stuff for a long time now.
Perhaps it's because Brokeback Mountain is so perfectly melancholy, some folks feel the need to give ol' Ennis a happy ending.
I choose to concentrate on elaborating on the sexy parts of the film when I write erotic fan fiction. I would never dream of sending the author anything I...

I used to cry because this story cuts to the quick in so many ways. Heath's performance was brilliant, and his passing only adds to the heartache..

Don't let it bother you. If your friends seem dumb and immature, it's time to make some new friends! Plenty of straight male critics thought BbM was a great film. I'm gay and I've never seen Sex and the City. I have also watched Die Hard and I don't think that makes me straight.
