Generally, atheists are thought to not believe (as in disbelieve) in God and agnostics don't specifically believe in, nor do they deny the possibility of God.

@crypticclue I engage in debate because I enjoy hearing the other side, I enjoy understanding why people believe, how they came to be believers and what would make them doubt or question their belief. It helps me understand the believers a lot better and to help me with my questions of where these beliefs or ideas of gods came from. I think what you said here is important for theist and atheist to understand, myself included. I think we all...

Well then the Brits simple have as bad taste as the rest of us. The question is, why do we choose Budweiser? You'd think in a land of no lying, at least at the beginning he'd be saying "this tastes like dogfood" after each sip.

Hi Cheng Also, atheist have become more outspoken, and have every right to be, but it concerns me that they're falling into the same trap that the early christians fell into after Christ death. Some of these 'saints' fell into the lure of the power that Christianity gave them and made themselves bigger than the religion themselves. Yes, you might be right. I think an association with Atheism gives a lot of people a feeling of...

I guess my problem is more of the dialogue. I think, as another poster mentioned, there are ways to say 'ok', rather than seems like you have the mental age of 6. YMMV, though.

I don't think I've ever seen a Brit drinking a Budweiser. I spent a semester in London and didn't see it. Bud was available, but maybe it was for the benefit of us Americans. Bass Ale and Guinness - even Foster's would be more likely. Product placement is more realistic, but it takes me right out of the scene and makes me think "How much did they pay to be featured so prominently in this movie?"

I think the following news paper headlines make it obvious: "Mansions for everyone" "NASA searching for man in the sky" "Finally - A reason to be good" "Man in sky continues to give AIDS to babies" (that one made me laugh so hard) "Man in sky murders forty thousand with tsunami" These clearly show the implications of believing in a god. It's...

I don't even care whether he's an atheist or religious or whatever.
The implications this film makes about exploiting people with a disadvantage is disgusting. So basically, everyone will believe ANYTHING he says. He can lie and they can't even fathom the idea. He basically manipulates people all the time with nobody even having the chance to resist it. And he bloody takes advantage of ...

I did like this movie as a concept, but a few things (that I haven't seen mentioned on this board) bug the heck out of me!
1. Polite lying
The movie can't seem to make up it's mind about this. On the one hand characters are supposed to blurt out everything they think and spare no feelings with being polite, but that being said -- do you *really* think all those people were actually thinking "...

Just saw the movie and I have to say it was quite enjoyable, though the whole time Jennifer was on screen, I kept thinking, if they're gonna have a really shallow character that is only concerned with looks and genes, couldn't they find someone better looking than rat faced Garner?
The whole time she was talking about how beautiful she is and superior genes, I just didn't buy it.

Now that I've thought about it, I'm really not so sure if this movie is pro or anti religion. I know the writers may have intended it one way or the other, but there are arguments for both.
Anti
Well, the whole fact that the closest thing they have to religion is from some guy lying, and then he just makes things up and the whole world engages in false idol worship, that's pretty damning....

I enjoyed this film well enough...and "the scene" with Gervais and his mother was very well done, IMO. BUT...as much as I liked the concept of the film, there were several moments I was rolling my eyes so far back in my head people may have thought I was having a seizure (ok, not really.) My main problem was that, while interesting to see a society where everyone tells the truth....

It's just a little " what if?" movie folks! It's clever and funny and sweet. Why so many so-called 'christians' got their panties all up in a wad over it is beyond comprehension. I believe in God; I'm spiritual and I wasn't at all offended. I think God has a sense of humor or he wouldn't have made a duck billed platypus.
I don't see marketing or advertising people all up in arms at the way ...

OK, I took that little visual joke to mean that others were starting to get the hang of lying. It's obviously made up by the Pepsi advertisers, because how would they know? They don't. It's a lie, right?
I thought this was an early sign of how Ricky Gervais had spread that little seed, so that by the end of the movie, everyone had learned how to lie. And yet... at the end only Gervais and ...

Looks like the battle lines are clearly drawn between the atheists and the theists here.
Honestly, have any of you realized that you need faith to be either? Faith is defined in the bible as "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."- the whole point of it is that you believe in something so strongly that evidence one way or the other in the physical world doesn't ...

I thought the movie was going to be funnier based on the trailer.

I was really hoping to laugh more at a world with no lying but it was just so depressing. The date with the two leads was more awkward than funny. It seems like such a bleak existence, especially with characters like the one played by Jonah Hill. How would anyone ever marry and fall in love and have kids with the other person constantly being honest about their every flaw? Ricky was made out ...

that people were willingly being awful to each other. half of the time they weren't even asked a question. they have to tell the truth but that doesn't mean that they have to say everything they think about someone to there face. if i ask you what you think of me you can lie to me to protect my feelings, these people cannot. if i come up to you and say hi, you can say hi back and be polite...for ...

SPOILERS
Throughout we are given a point of view only a man can conjur. An ugly man of the world (a screenwriter of all things) decides to use the ability to lie to get financial gain and tries to use white lies to help people. He eventually convinces a previously shallow hottie that there is more to spouses than looks. Blah blah blah.
If this story had been written by people who had ...
