UPDATED Sat Aug 30 2008 15:37:40 Just heard about this incident which occurred many years ago in my hometown, Westport, CT. It gave me a big chuckle! A girl was invited to her girlfriend's house to go swimming for the afternoon. The girlfriend's parents were (local residents) Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. At the end of the afternoon the girl called her mother to ...

Please tell us what classics, and modern films, you saw in the past week. Also you may discuss politics. I won't tell the imdb administrators. You won't be seeing any prison movies where you're going - prison!

UPDATED Fri Sep 5 2008 07:03:42 Compared to Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis, Joan Fontaine and Judy Garland, I fail to see what's so appealing about Katharine Hepburn. She played strong women, but so did Barbara Stanwyck and much better. I'm not saying she's a bad actress, far from me to say so, but I don't view her as one of the greatest actresses in film. I've seen much better ...

http://www.slantmagazine.com/film/features/100esse ntialfilms.asp More like a list that I, and, I suspect, many CFBers would produce than any of the lists produced by mainstream publications. I haven't seen all of these films but the vast majority that I've seen I love, and most of those that I haven't seen, I certainly intend to,...Imamura's " The Ballad of Narayama" is a DVD of ...

The reason I ask is that I notice on many threads with multiple responses, very often the same information is supplied (I'm not talking about having the same opinion as another poster) or point made that that was supplied or made by someone else in a previous post that renders the new post almost superfluous. For example, if there is a post on Vertigo with 40 responses and 3 of them ...

Back in the 80s we had a fantastic local PBS stations (WILL, Univ of IL, Urbana) which showed a lot of classic movies and once a month would feature a week long marathon based on a particular actor or genre. I taped quite a few of these and have been burning them onto disk. Right now I'm watching five Universal classics: Frankenstein, Dracula, The Invisible Man, The Wolfman, and The ...

Fantastic year yet the Academy wasted one or two slots. And the Nominees were .... Humphrey Bogart in The Caine Mutiny Humphrey plays a megalomanic captain of a near-wrecked ship. Bogart easily won our last (and first) round but I think we can safely say he won't win his second one here. I loved the movie but prefered the supporting cast to Bogart's crazy maniac. He wasn'...

Time to vote! The CFB Animation Project is a community effort to build a list of 100 important directors of animated shorts, with three representative shorts listed for each. Upon completion, this list will be submitted to Bill Georgaris, who manages TheyShootPictures.com, to complement his upcoming list of the worlds 250 greatest short films (which will include both animated and...

UPDATED Tue Sep 2 2008 03:21:16 Others in the "series": 1)Jane Fonda, 2)Gregory Peck, 3)Maureen O'Hara, 4)Robert Ryan, 5)Lee Remick, 6)James Mason, 7)Dorothy Malone, 8)Richard Basehart, 9) Eva Marie Saint, 10)Karl Malden.
