In answer to your questions lurker: 1. We don't know who is the photos specifically; presumably Deckards family. Only one of them is one of Leon's photos. 2. An address is written on the back of the photo but not sure whose. 3. LA in 2019 is multi-cultural. Remember Gaff's street speak? Part of that was German too. Also the people that tried to vandalize Deckard's car spoke German. 4. Can't help you there but some of...

Alex, so he's supposed to be Sam Spade? Yes, the point was to take the hard-boiled detective story of the '40s and warp it into the future. To give you an illustration, Ridley Scott always wanted a voiceover so the Film Noir style would be complete. He even wanted Harrison Ford to wear a hat. And I can't really see Rachael as a femme fatale considering that most of the time (after she finds out that she's a replicant)...

Did Chew freeze to death, or did Roy and Leon let him live? Also, did Roy have to kill Sebastian? Roy was already a wanted man for killing the shuttle passengers, so silencing Sebastian for witnessing Tyrell's murder was rather cruel.

Boo Hoo poor old Rupert. Look back at this thread and see who first got hostile...(hint: it was you, genius). A poster answered your OP with no hostility to you and you responded in a very aggressive and offhand way. Then someone thought you hadnt understood the film (something which is obvious) and you said he was attacking you personally. You are very easily offended if thats the case. How do you make it through the day? As your angry posts...

The Voight-Kampff demonstrates that a replicant has a different apathetic response. How so? I got the impression that they thought differently in a very "robotic" sense. Who's to say an autistic (perhaps a bad example but it's the best one I've got) wouldn't fail the test just as easily? Or someone who is just really apathetic? And yes it's meant to be a philosophical film and it's admirable in...

Who cares? Rachael isn't real people. She's a replicant. Though, she is more of a person than a whore. But there aren't any whores in Blade Runner. I think the OP is trying to tell us how much he likes transvestite whores. It's a logical conclusion to leap to. _______ "There's nothing you can know that isn't known." -John Lennon

At the end of the film Rachel leaves Deckard's flat wearing a fur coat. As she turns towards the camera she resembles the owl at Tyrell's place. Before this she speaks mechanically to Deck, this made me wonder if she wasn't a rep. There's still plenty of ambiguity in the FC. Of course, 'Replicant' is a communist fish, they're all people whatever the law says. Marlon the Cat 1991-17th October 2005 Claudia the...

Although I love this movie, I haven't watched it obsessively many times. I think the photos are from Leon's apartment. What puzzles me is, why does finding Zhora's image seem to be a revelation? Bryant had already shown Deckard what the replicants looked like.
Also, what makes Deckard quickly draw his gun in the elevator? How could he have known Rachael was there?

On what island have you been living?! There's a set that contains all the versions. It even has the workprint.

The book was good, but you have to admit that it would not have made a very good script, the final confrontation is anti-climactic and lacks action. Deckard's whole moral development/redemption occurs as a result of a side plot that runs underneath the whole narrative of the book, as opposed to being faced with his own mortality only to be saved by the very thing he's trying to destroy.

If you're not sure what to make of it, watch the movie again. It's usually upon revisiting that most people make a connection with this film. That's why Blade Runner went from flop to a film classic.

Not sure how far we will get with this but I'll start:
Steven Spielberg : "I thought Ridley painted a very bleak but brilliant vision of life on earth in a few years. It's kind of acid rain and sushi. In fact, it's coming true faster than most science fiction films come true. Blade Runner is almost upon us. It was ultranoir."

The answer is simple, you did not evolve, you still have the mind and the writing ability of a 15-year-old.

I didn't think a great deal of the theatrical version, would give it 3 out of 5 stars at best. By changing the film to suggest that Deckard is a replicant, coupled with sorting out the narration and changing the ending launched the film into the stratosphere of greatness IMO. Without those things I probably wouldn't have watched it again but with those things changed it becomes a 5 out of 5 star ...

First time, you say? A lot of first time viewers pay only attention to story, events and sympathetic characters. However, by the time you've watched the Final Cut, you probably think differently about this movie, no matter what version. In his very early period, Scott used film (especially mise-en-scxE8;ne) to express emotion. The story of his movies merely served as a structure. With other words...

Definitly. If you feel like you should watch it again. Then by all means, watch it again.
A lot of things start coming together and you'll start picking up on some of those underlying themes and, most importantly, realize that it's not a thriller or an action movie, more along the lines of a future-noir.
Please, watch it again. Nobody ever gets it at first. Nobody.
