They are considered soundtracks, even though Streisand rerecorded the concert sections (and rightly so, as sonically, the sound wouldn't have been up to par). Columbia cleverly milked the first special by producing two albums and by including songs not shown in the program ("He Touched Me", for one). This was pretty groundbreaking. CMB much more closely follows the TV special. All three albums are superb, clearly among...

Three months since the release of "Love Is The Answer" (September 29), and Streisand is still going strong. In week 12 on the Hot 200 Albums Chart, Streisand is at #112 (falling from #106). Next week's chart should show a slight increase, reflecting this week's reairing of her Oprah interview, as well as Christmas buyers during the last week of the Holiday shopping season. Meanhwile, Mariah Carey's much touted...

In her heyday all of the above. Now she's been a legend for longer than most of the executives and power brokers have been alive so I'm sure they think of her with respect...and a little disinterest. Open the door for Mr. Muckle!!

Does anyone gets incredibly displeased, upset and frustrated when they saw the sign of 2 oscars on her profile.I mean,COME ON,that song was horribleee.I cant believe she won the Oscar for that. Her performance in Funny Girl was quite good but i guess her vote put her in a tie with Hepburn who gave a muuuch betteer performance.Meryl Streep,Vivien Leigh,Bette Davis also won 2 Oscars which made me thinnk Oscars were unfair. But however, they dont...

Today I read a quote from vocalist Anne Murray -- a good singer, perhaps not at the level of Streisand in her prime, but with a very long, hit-laden career, nonetheless -- in which she said that she always held the bar very high for herself as a singer, and since she is, at age 64, no longer singing like she once could, she is voluntarily retiring. I don't own any of Anne Murray's albums, but I have gained a new-found respect for...

I don't think much of "Evergreen" either, but remember the time period.
And, to be fair, I don't recall the songs it was up against. Anyway,
"Evergreen" sounds like Gershwin compared to the all-time-worst song
ever to win an Oscar - "Take my Breath Away" from "Top Gun." I recall
the night in 1987 when an R & B singer was chosen to sing it, and the
song was so flat and ...

First and foremost, Streisand has a voice which can mesmerize an audience, and she's always had it. There was never a voice or style like it before, though many have aspired and imitated since. Streisand is the kind of artist who can take center stage and command the audience's attention without resorting to trickery or special effects - it's called Presence, and very few genuinely have ...

Wow, and I thought MY thread of ten albums was tough. I hope I don't
start a minor revolution with this, but, frankly, because I find
Streisand the SINGER far more interesting than Streisand the actress
(and I'm saying this as lover of several of her films), I'd have to
go with mostly the TV specials, as they are the most magical to me in
capturing her genius. So......

Oh, gbennett - you don't know the trick of the diehard Streisand fans when asked this question: First on the list is "Just For The Record" (since you get four discs in that one choice!)
1. JFTR
2. The Broadway Album
3. Back to Broadway
4. A Christmas Album (Christmas still happens, desert island or not)
5. My Name is Barbra, Two
6. Duets (That's "19 birds with one stone"!)
7. ...

How can you say her voice isn't what it was. As far as I'm concerned she still sounds great. As for her albums after the 80's. Higher Ground, Back To Broadway, Guilty Pleasures. They are fantastic albums and she just gets better. I honestlyhope she doesn't retire. She doesn't strike me as the kind of person to do nothing with her later years, instead she has chosen to entertain the millions of ...

Those were wigs which she wore in the movie. Most famosu scene is when she cuts her hair in the mirror (for some odd reason, when an actress 'cuts her hair' in a movie, the Acadmey usuaully rewards this - but not with Barbra) she was cutting a wig.
