Fascinating. thanks a lot. Yes come to think about it, it does seem odd that Angier, a lord hiding under alias, would take his - presumably also upper class - wife with him into showbusiness.

holes in the screenplay
Published (2008-11-27 16:02:00)
To put it another way imagine the machine works like this: Person A steps into the machine. Person A's brain is ripped out of his body. The machine then copies the body. There are now two identical bodies, one is left in the machine, the other is placed a set distance away. The brain is placed back into the body placed a short distance away. Is this body the same one that stepped into the machine? It has the brain, it has the memories,...

Christian Bale's accent...
Published (2008-11-28 01:53:00)
I only know the differences between English accents by sound (everyone in this movie sounded different than say, Emma Watson or those child actors in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas ), not by region or anything. I liked Bale's accent (I thought it sounded different than his normal English accent), but I don't know if it was accurate for someone from London.

Note also, that only one body is seen in a tank at the end. . . . and one is lying on the floor shot to death, and one has already been seen on a slab in the morgue, and one has been shot in a flashback scene not narrated in Angier's diary or aloud to the surviving Borden. The person in the tank is clearly not Root. Cutter identifies the body as Angier's. Root and Angier have different facial features (Jackman wears prosthetic...

In most cases, we can. Just take the *last* scene where it's 100% sure, and unwound the whole movie backwards. Then it becomes more clear. __________________________________ Oh my god! They killed Angier! YOU BASTARDS!!!

I do not agree... The Angier who speaks the line in the end is the one who has survived 102 times in a row.. how would he ever be afraid to step into the machine.. He would think that he has calibrated the machine perfect so that he survives everytime and his copy is drowned... He doesn't know if he is a copy or the original 'transported man' he has the same exact memory and feels the same in every way... why would he ever...

Check out "Shadowland" by Peter Straub. Extremely trippy and well written horror novel that deals with magic in a bizarre way, and one of my favorite books of all time.

Theres more to it than the twists, also think about the fact that it shows you all the cloned hats right at the beginning of the film but it takes ages for you to gather that the machine is a cloning device. It was moments like that which made me put the film back on again to try and notice everything, the two birds with the little boy asking "where is his brother?", I didnt pick up on that for ages .

Which Borden (Sarah's or Olivia's) tied the knot that killed Julia, do you think? Personally, I think it was Olivia's? Has their names ever been revealed? XD How do we tell them apart other than that? High summer holds the earth On this shining night

Nice try Christian, but we're not buying it. I really liked the movie as a whole, I thought it was rather brilliant, but Christian's over the top British accent detracted from it a little. Anybody else think this? You think such a talented actor could have mastered the most common foreign accent in movies lol!

What did you all think of the accents in this movie? I'm always listening for accents and I get so distracted when they're unnatural. I thought Piper Perabo's was great. Christian Bale's...I think it was supposed to be Cockney, but I have no idea if it was good. I'm not familiar enough with it. Scarlett's was pretty bad. She kept going in and out of it and never got a hang of ...

It may have already been asked, it may not be important. Near the end Cutter finds out that Angier is not dead, this is before Borden is hanged I think. Could Cutter not have told the courts/police that Angier was still alive therefore preventing the hanging of Borden?

I mean Jess' father, a DNa test can say a little more than 90% secure who of two poeple is someones father. But, the thing is if twins have MORE than 90% (actually, tecnically is a 100%; if not, it is a mosaicism) the very same DNA how could you know wich one was the REAL father? I think that even at this time it's not possible to know unless they knew the exact dates they where getting laid ...

Movie is superbly made, excellent atmosphere, acting is great but screenplay let me down, especially after brilliant Memento. Now am i just missing few things or are there just too many question marks? 1. I can't believe 2 women never found out about twins. No twins can be so identical (phisically, mentally or spiritually) to make such a trick in a long term. With each of them changing places ...

Others have commented on the rather odd moment when Angier doesn't appear out of the shadows the last time the trick is performed, this leading to Borden being charged with murder, but I have other concerns. It has to do with the Borden twins (and talk about deus ex machina) because the whole set-up doesn't quite hang together. Sarah, Alfred Borden's wife, knows her husband has a twin so ...

I recently finished reading The Prestige, and I'm curious...are there any other great novels based around a stage Magician, or stage magic in general? I've always found it a very interesting subject, and after reading The Prestige, I'd like to check out some other good books that touch upon this sort of thing. ____________________________________ I owe my soul to the company store

How did Angier know which night Borden would sneak backstage to check what was happening with the tank, and frame Borden for his own murder by not reappearing as he should do for the show, leaving only the drowned clone to be seen?? This seems to be the only plothole in an otherwise seamless movie
