That's POSSIBLE, but it seems to me that if they rushed Monk to the hospital, Albright wouldn't have had time to dispose of the evidence. We didn't see it, but I would imagine the plates were left on the table and that would have been the first things they checked.

Mr. Monk & the Airplane. One of the best episodes ever. When it was still on network, before cable.

Good point, unless it was super ricin that only needed a few specs in the food to do the trick, leaving nothing on the plate!

A lot of good points. In the end, it just comes down to whether you, personally, think Monk should have thought to open the gift. Considering how thorough and picky Monk is, I just can't imagine him not doing so. Amish Heat Surge electric fireplaces are made in China.

So What Next For Tony???

You should really try to get hold of him doing That Championship Season (1999) with Gary Senise, Paul Sorvino, and Vincent D'Onofrio. I thought it was very well done. Some of the language is a bit ripe, but what do you expect for five ex-basketball players at a reunion? It's a talky play, by no means a comedy, but really excellent, and shows a whole different side of Tony's abilities.

}]Once again, I agree its contrived either way, but I can see why he didn't open it. }] For Monk, everything associated with Trudy was sacred. I am not surprised that he did not open the present.

I watched the first two episodes then stopped. I didn't start watching again until the Christmas episode where Monk met his dad and went on the road trip together.

When he undoes something that somebody else has arranged a certain way, like a display, they will complain, he will explain his reason for the rearranging & he will inevitably say, "You'll thank me later!". Nobody ever has, yet.

You left out Randy did it, Stott did it, Sharona did it, Lt Albright did it, and Trudy was doing a story that involved Mitch in some illegal activity.

I think it would cross his mind, yeah... at least four years later! He DID spend three years being practically catatonic.

According to IMDB:
Untitled Beatle Boyin Project (2010) (in production) .... Parking Violations Bureau Agent
Feed the Fish (2009) (completed) .... Sheriff Andersen
Both look like small parts, but you never know! Maybe he is just taking some time off!

People have been mentioning Craig T. Nelson. Is that who Trudy's killer is?

I'm typically a lurker this week because I'm curious about what people are saying about the finale...but yeah, I am really nervous! I actually don't think he's going to die because these aren't the kind of writers who easily play into melodrama - to me, an ending that shows Monk reunited with Trudy treads heavily into that camp, as well as a metaphysical realm that I think these people are smart...

After reading so many posts on the subject, I too formulated a plan as to how *I* would have done it. Option 2 was more along the lines of what I had in mind. It appears that Monk is now using some kind of personal size package of wipes. I would have doctored several of them to avoid "wipe roulette," and having to wait for him to get to the ones that had been poisoned.
Edit: An additional ...

That theory doesn't take into account the phone call between the man that killed Trudy and Joey Kaz. If that man were Lt. Steve Albright, then what's the point him telling Joey Kaz to kill Monk, if he intended to do it himself?
So, Lt. Steve is pretty much ruled out. And I think it's pretty clear that Judge Ethan Rickover is Trudy's killer. We know "who", we just don't know "why".

He's probably moving to New Joisey to be with Sharona.
I used to be Smurf-Man777 ... but I'm not any more, so you'll just have to get over that.
