From the 70's onward, Marlon Brando refused to learn his lines for movies. Why was that? He had his lines taped to other actors/actresses or props in the scene and he would simply read his lines on camera. Did he think he was already a legend so he didn't have to try anymore or did he suffer from a mental illness or something? How could he still be called the greatest actor ever if he refused to memorize his lines the last 20 years...

Honestly, I think it's just because he was lazy. I've read his excuse about trying to keep "fresh and spontaneous", but I don't really buy it.
