The other day I read this review of Downhill Racer, recently out on DVD: The success of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" made Robert Redford a movie star. But a far less successful movie released just weeks later in 1969, a riveting drama featuring one of best performances in Redford's career, is responsible for turning Redford into the icon to independent film....Redford plays the title role, David Chappellet, a...

I am more that ready for some new James videos! My daughter was here for Thanksgiving and we watched Starter for 10 together. While we were watching, she kept saying, "I hope he doesn't end up with the blonde girl." (MK, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Shameless and Shakespeare, if you have time.)

While I find it very encouraging that Film Independent gave such strong recognition to The Last Station overall, I'm still somewhat bummed that they didn't include JM as well as Christopher Plummer and Helen Mirren in their list of nominees. After all, some reviewers have really raved about James' performance in TLS. I'll still continuing to keep my hopes up for JM in the other award races, since the Independent Spirit...

Thanks INU for this great news. It is too bad about James not being recognized but I think Gengenger and Nez both cautioned us that this performance was too subtle to grab their attention. But I have GREAT expectations for James in The Conspirator. A couple of blog comments that have been made, with which I agree, is that this helps the Oscar campaign because of the recognition and the additional publicity. I consider it a big loss that Sony...

Hey Saint, I think The Conspirator, based on what I know about the project, embodies other themes. There was a very real, not inferred, judgement on the nature of competition in both Downhill Racer and the Candidate; the obvious ones involve how competition is corrosive, how it's lauded and emulated without having any meaning, how this is celebrated...winning equaling heroism...that kind of thing. Downhill Racer and the Candidate are both...

For other great films Redford directed, see "Quiz Show" with Ralph Fiennes (nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director) and "A River Runs Through It" with Brad Pitt (nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Director).
He acted in many wonderful films, but if you can find it, one of my favorites was " The Electric Horseman," directed by Sydney Pollack.

I couldn't agree with you more, Mr. A, and sure hope that your prediction turns out to be right (although I am aware that there are others on this board who cringe at the prospect)! The first time that I ever saw JM in anything was the first Chronicles of Narnia movie. I had never seen him in anything before but was immediately struck by how accurately he "nailed" the character of Mr. Tumnus. I...

Just read a great quote about James from Timur Bekmambetov and remembered Nezray's thread from awhile back and wanted to post it.
"James is a great actor who has an unparalleled ability to control his body, gestures and voice. He can do sluggish moves in one moment, and then switch on something inside himself and turn into a superhero, controlling every cell of his body and ...

I'm not sure if any of you have seen this on You Tube. These are the outtakes of James on " Early Doors". They are so funny, especially James in the last scene.

Thanks for the article, aslan! James is in the USA! Making a movie! I'm so happy!
Anyone know how much extras get paid? Maybe I could convince my hubby it would be worth for me to go. I think I might fit the requirements.
