You should be lucky to have your life swamped...unless it's not something bad. Still...take care! "Ça va by me, madame...Ça va by me!" - The Red Shoes

The way this film, Scorsese, the casting and the actors are vehemently defended by posters makes me think they worked on the film. That is the only way to explain their extreme defensiveness on a not so great a movie.

Yeah, haven't seen you either! I've been swamped up by my life outside of the internet unfortunately, so I haven't had time to do much of anything on the internet.

My ancestors on my mothers side immigrated from England in the mid 1700's. And honestly, who cares? I respect my ancestors, those who came to this county for a better life. But honestly the vast majority of Americans are descendants of immigrants. So where is your real question? "Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity."

Totally agree with you on the accent! To me too it sounded like today's NY/Brooklyn-accent that according to my accent teacher is strongly influenced by Italian.

do you have it, or no? Just asking because I noticed you bumped the other thread. The sky had a baby from my cereal box!

Unless you're actually Native American (or American Indians) of course. Which some people have confused.. --- I stuff provolone in my socks every night so they smell like your sister's crotch in the morning!

I agree. I cant believe that the same man who has made The Departed (one of my absolute favourite movies) has made this boring piece of nothing.

Why Cameron Diaz?
Published (2009-11-12 21:53:00)
Cameron was in the movie b/c she wanted to be in the film, had the box office clout, and was at the time (and is) a major hollywood star. I felt she was adequate in the role, but distractingly inferior to Leo and, especially, DDL. Kelly Mac would've been my choice (Robin Wright a close second), but Kate W, Naomi Watts, and a host of other English/Aussie actresses would have been better cast IMHO.

Yes, Bill used Jenny for sex. When he got her pregnant, he forced her to have an abortion and as away of paying her back, she became his most prized/protected lady. And based on what Jenny said, Bill has decreased his sexual activities since then.
Life is simple now. They just have to do what I say.

I totally agree with you. There was no ring of authenticity to it for the reasons you state.
It was so horribly miscast. Scorcese has some kind of a love affair with Leonardo DeCaprio and puts him in all the Scorcese films no matter how inappropriate. The only Irish actor was Bill, the Yankee villain, played by Daniel Day Lewis.
I thought DeCaprio's role should be cast with Colin ...

He speaks with a New York accent. DDL is British himself so perhaps it gets thrown in the the New York accent he's attempting and can sound odd at times. I thought DDL's accent in There Will Be Blood was pretty similar.

As someone with a masters degree in 19th Century American History, I'm going to guess that the way it was presented was a bit of an exaggeration. However, huge, and I mean HUGE, amounts of immigrants (mostly Germans and Irish) fought for the Union during the war. So they were obviously recruited somehow, but it is unlikely that they were waiting at the docks like it was portrayed in the film.
