We may be *beep* but if it wasnt for the USA, the rest of the world would be *beep* and probably be speaking german, japanese, and arabic.

I just LOVED the hair dryer scene.

Oh my god! I laughed so hard when I saw the title of this thread. I thought you were being sarcastic because it was such a "normal" and mundane scene. :D HAHHAHA

What made her so mad?

Thanks, I rewatched the beginning last night and understood it better. What I'm wondering is...at the end of the movie, one of the guys used the same ploy on the next family. I assume they did the same thing to the previous family at the start of the movie. Eventually they're gonna come across a house that doesn't have any eggs and what will they do then...ask if they can have some bacon instead? www.myspace.com/pinkcorset

Issue WIth Funny Games *SPOILER

My analogy isn't super clear. I don't intend for the poison to mean 'violence.' I mean the combination of violence, the family trauma, the fourth wall breaking, and the general unentertaining *beep* of the film; poison to the viewer. My point is, what right does the chef have to even ask the question? Or, how can you take the chef seriously? People go to a restaurant to eat food, not poison.

Why is this labeled as a horror...
Published (2009-12-18 18:23:00)
I'd probably agree with you... but horror is like comedy: hard to appeal to everyone. The same things don't make people scared. Blood and gore scares the crap out of my sister, but I could care less about it. Maybe this film just doesn't fit into any main categories and horror is the closest thing? Lol but yeah, psychological thriller sounds about right.

I do believe that the killers took the family's car when they left the house. Before that, they were under guard, as you note.

You don't understand the differences between American style and European style films. I definitely suggest you stay away from Bela Tarr.

I do not agree with your use of the phrase plot hole. As I understand it plot hole is when the logic of one part of a film does not flow with the driving logic of the narrative. Your complaints seem to be in regard to the credibility of actions based on nonfictional laws of reality.

Great! Only the reason they didn't go out and get the cellphone from the car was because Tom & Jerry, Bevis & Butthead, etc. and so fourth took the car with the cell phone in it, you just missed that.
The reason she didn't use the boat was because those types of boats usually require two people to run, especially if you're inexperienced, which we're led to believe she is.

To stay with your analogy, the chef (director) is asking you why you keep coming back for the poison (violence).

Yeah seriously, that was the one moment when I was like "Yeah!" and then he starts looking for the remote and rewinds the scene and as this is happening I'm thinking "oh, no, this can't be happening here." And about 5 seconds later I realized that it did happen. I guess they were going for the roller coaster effect but this was absolutely STUPID.
