Speaking of "embaressment", how about your spelling, grammar, and syntax? You see,"one of only a handful of films that has won Best Picture Oscar, should read "one of only a handful of films that have won the Best Pictue Oscar." So many of the board must look back in embaressment (Really, what were you thinking?) at some of the films that they have voted for years later, and realise what a mistake...

Similar how? Because they dealt with racial issues? So what? It's like comparing Con Air with Alive because they both had air planes in the movie. "What about you?"

aurileo, There's nothing worse than psuedo-intellectuals like yourself who get on these boards and try to put people down by pretending that they've been bestowed with special insight and wisdom. Most likely you're a film school dropout that wouldn't know fine cinema if it bit you on the ass. Hey, shouldn't you be watching "2001: A Space Oddysey" for the 100th time and blogging about the genius of...

Don't bother man, I live overseas, in Europe, reality is different here, people's opinions are different. A change in the character? Wow, I printed your post and made lot of people laugh. A cop changes his character? Helping someone out of the burning car makes you a better, changed man, oh, come on. If I see Bin Laden on fire I'd help him, because it's human, it doesn't mean that I like the guy....

Brokeback Mountain was robbed that year. Far better film than Crash in all respects, IMHO. I think, generally, the academy get it right though. this year, for example, Slumdog was by far the best film on offer. 2004 was one year I was disappointed by the result, but looking back on it Million Dollar Baby did deserve to win - I wanted Ray to get it at the time.

Not even remotely a contest. 'Do The Right Thing' is light years ahead of 'Crash'.

Very good, Mick-137! But we do see that many claiming to be victims are quite willing to be hypocrites and victimize others.

It might be wiser to say why YOU like or dislike this film than to postulate why other people do. Personally, I found each of the cast of characters interesting as was their interplay.
But I've talked so often about why I like this film that I'm talked out. Let me just say that I didn't find the style corny or the scrip so-so. Are there films coming out now that I like better? Yes. But that ...

He thought he was drawing a gun but in reality it was just the same "saint" piece that the officer had which was why the black guy was laughing. the officer thought the black guy was being racist and laughing at his saint as well as music...and overtime the officer who was very anti racist started to question himself (the other cop told him "wait till you've been on the force long enough")

The Asians in the film were Korean, not Chinese. They're just refered to as "Chinamen" to reflect the characters' ignorance.

Close. I think the theme is that we've lost our sense of community; that we've retreated into our little conclaves and look out from them to judge those who are different. When forced to interact we are suspicious and defensive.
