What you need is one of these good forum color coordinarted brews. As for the vid, wanna guess how fast I was going at the end of the first onramp and in the #2 lane after the interchange? I'm actually surprised i didn't end up chucking a rock or having a strap loosen and blow $1000 worth of gear.

Usually a strong fuel smell with no apparent leaks indicates a bad charcoal canister. I'm not sure where you're going with the soap and water, though. Leaks will be vacuum, so you'll just be sucking it into the engine. An old trick to find a vacuum leak is to spray the engine with brake cleaner or ether while it's idling, see if the idle speed goes up. Just be careful not to spray it on the hot exhaust manifolds!

79 Mini fuel pump
Published (2009-11-05 22:13:00)
I decided I couldn't wait until the weekend to figure this thing out. After several calls to the local parts stores, O'Rielly's found a listing for an electric fuel pump for a 1979 Hilux with 20R. New pump in hand, I dropped the tank (after verifying it was not an electrical problem) and removed the pump assembly for comparison to the aftermarket fuel pump---exact match! Once I get photos posted, you'll quickly see why I...

I would see how this guy likes his slightly built 22R series http://forum.ih8mud.com/79-95-toyota...otor-swap.html Otherwise, Small cam, header, weber, nice clutch and call it good.

That's quite the hole there! Did it give any warning of that? Metal in your oil before? Ticking noises from the bottom end? I'm assuming that the #1 connecting rod also let loose--correct? Looks good. Dan

The answer is very dependant on what wheel you have them mounted on, what is the backspacing, etc.

i am not sure but it does not sound right to me. the tanks are different between the mechanical and the electric in tank. i would think may be the guy had a tank problem and put a newer tank under it and eliminated his mechanical pump.

I don't know what your factory backspacing was, but 2.5" seems like alot of dish in the wheels to me - as you move the tire away from the hub it places more and more load on your wheel bearings and ball joints. The factory backspacing on my '88 4runner was right at 4.5" & I'm pretty sure the Taco is the same.

The PO was not a nut job at all, the smartest thing he could have done was to install manual locking hubs (better milage, better power). Now how he went about it is a different question, he should not have welded anything!!!!! What I would really have to know is if (a) the vehicle came with Automatic Differential Disconnect (ADD), or (b) if it came with factory Automatic Locking Hubs. Is there ...

first you should check the sending unit, and yes you can fix a crack in the block but you will have to have an acetylene torch rig and either you braze it or you use an rosebud to heat the block then weld it. but blocks are pretty tough so check the sending unit first.
