LOL at blacking that out. That's like blacking out that two leads in a rom-com will end up together. EDIT: The difference, for what it's worth, is that Samurai and Wolves are more about lamenting the inevitable loss of romance, and less about running guilt trips. That's why those movies end the way they do. Date Edited: 12/19/2009 10:04:37 PM (2 edits total) edited by : Iron-and-Wine

It's great - a couple months ago I'd have estimated no more than $50 mil opening weekend and the slimmest of shots at $200m domestic. I do wonder if the WOM is going to drive the same amounts of people to IMAX/3D showings or not, because that could have a substantial effect on the money-per-weekend on the coming weeks. It'd be interesting to see the breakdown from this weekend of how much money came from which sort of venue.

Sounds boring. I'm still bitter that he didn't get to do his Superman sequel. He was very open about the fact that the first movie was going to be an homage, and that he was going to shake things up with the sequel. I'm one of the people that really enjoyed Superman Returns, and I find it severely underrated. It's not as good as Iron Man, Spiderman 2, the Batman movies, or even the first Superman movie. But it's still...

I know plenty who don't watch TV or go to the theater and would rather "do something worth while" than sit in front of one watching a movie. I don't really get what you're driving at. I thought 3D worked really with with Avatar obviously, but also with Coraline which has really subtle and effective uses of it. Monsters vs Aliens 3D felt like a useless gimmick and left me bitter about 3D for awhile so that I never saw Up in 3D. from the trailer anyway, Alice in Wonderland looks to have amazing use of 3D

The 3D in Avatar is done to an impeccable degree, and heightened the spectacle and depth of the images. There was little or no technical issues. Steve actually is blind in one eye, and he personally told me he is color blind... I think.

Mommas_Boy posted: The trailer is much much better in 3d. Im thinking this is more of a kids movie tho, not sure If Id go and see it or not. Prob for the 3d/depp if anything, You obviously missed the part where Alice and the Mad Hatter get it on. That's definitely not PG material.

$73 mil actually, which is the second highest December opening of all time. I'd say that's extremely good for a 3 hour original sci-fi opening in the face of the worst snow storm hitting the east coast in recent history. Also made a pretty massive $232 million worldwide, which is 9th highest all time, and appears to be the highest opening weekend for an original movie ever.

if you're so worried about the phantom menace being "tainted" by a mere youtube video it sounds like your liking of the film is hanging on by a pretty thin thread

Saw the link on the DVD CB yesterday. I watched it all last night and really liked it. Some really funny stuff in it but a lot of good points as well.

The legs that come to mind when I think of Avatar are those of Michael Johnson. I honestly think this movie, due to word of mouth, will gross more in it's second weekend than it will this weekend.

Wow, she was pretty young. I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but having a heart attack at 32 is either a congenital heart defect or drugs.

Umm.... if true, my excitement for this movie is dead. I seriously do not like Tobey Maguire and think he has brought down most things he has been in.
