It depends on how much of the disk is unallocated and then allocated to the new policy. Very hard to quantify. ta Nigel

Dear Guru, Is there any default utility / commends available to check System Health in AIX 5.3? I want to check my disks health that includes to identify disk controller problems, including physical disk issues etc. Thanks! Rob

That is good as the technology works as I expected, just a rubbish manual/help page entry to explain it. thanks Chris

the "default utility" (errdemon) should already be running on your aix. man errpt man errdemon for event notification: google: errnotify aix this will get you information about many disk related (and other) problems but by far not about all.

NMON 12a Size of proc in 4k pages?
Published (2009-12-15 03:14:00)
hi, two things here :) to calculate memory usage for several instantiations of a programm, I find it more useful to use svmon than for instance topas, as you can make the distinction between shared memory areas and private process areas. For example, with topas or ps you will find that N processes use a total of 4GB of memory, and svmon will tell you that in fact you have 3 Gb of shared memory and 1 GB to divide between the N instantiations...

My nmon command is "nmon -fdt -m /aixfix/nmon -s 120 -c 720", and I modifed this to "nmon -DEft -m /aixfix/nmon -s 120 -c 720", I hope this could be helpful. thanks for your help.

Are you still experiencing this issue? I logged in to developerWorks from the forum using IE7 and FireFox 3.5.5 today and in both cases I was brought back to the forum entry.

yes, now it is even worse. In Firefox, I get a 500 error page, and can't do anything. In Internet Explorer, it still bounces me to the DW Portal Page when I login.

This tools seems very nice. But I have a newbie question. How to get or create file in nmon format ? Are the files in /etc/perf/daily/xmwlm.yymmdd in nmon format ? I tried with one of these. The loading seems OK but there isn't any charts or graphs. I don't know where to search. Thanks

NMON_analyser has basic support for xmwlm provided that the file has been created with the -a flag. See the User Guide. Most people just use the nmon command (see the Analyser user guide for that too).

The process CharIO is the count of the characters being passed from the kernel to/form the process via the read and write system calls. readch and writech are the whole system counters for the same system calls. If the file system I/O is being generated via a process(es) reading and writing files then it will show up here. But note processes reading and writing to sockets also ...

I like the disk information tab. Why are some disks that are concurrent grayed out? I cant expand them. The volume report is empty. The volume list tab is empty, but not the volume detail. Tried bos.perf.tools 6.1.3.0 & 5.3.9.1. How about a file|close to close the current report that was generated. If i try to open another nmon after just parsing one, it crashes. Is there ...

Yes it is confusing but remember this LPARs pool could be used by other LPARs, if not used. If you change "Entitled Capacity of Pool" to "Sum of the Entitlements of LPARs in this Pool" does it help? Its a bit wordy for a UNIX command output so they used the "Entitled" instead :-) It is a shame the manual entry did not spell this out in full. The manual entry is a bit ...

Are you getting this error in the standby node in your HACMP environment? What policy is applied to the above path(lsattr -El vpath350)? In case it is shared and reservation policy is 'Exclusive' the standby node will not be able to access the vpath even though it will be able to see it. Hence any operation to access the disk will throw out this error.

The reason for different versions for the distros is due to inconsistency in the libc library and the content of /proc. I would expect the Fedora 10 binary in nmon_x86_64_12a.zip to work fine. Fedora being the "bleeding edge/test" version of Red Hat. Give it a try, if it fails to run at all - let me know. Then take a quick look at memory and disks - these are the areas that are ...

Hi AFAIK the answers that NMON reports are in units of KB and I have never had to fiddle the figures (caveat: I am aware of some issues but am skipping those here as not relevant probably). I have been told by some java experts (NOT me) that memory is a major bugbear and lack of physical memory can cause issues. What size of memory is your system here? Also, I assume you are ...
