stage 7. door jams, hatch area, and underhood are painted red and clearcoated. underhood is prepped. i didn't ever catch it in the primered stage. the paint booth was big enough to fit 18-wheelers, so i asked if i could hang out in the corner and watch one of the stages of paint. very cool. after the red, before the clearcoat. still wet. i snapped a short video of him in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3rpjt4kqY4 and this is where...

While I was tying up some of the minute details, I picked up a set of spinner center caps and a Kaminari air dam. I bought the air dam from mad kaw and the spinners from AKH Wheels. I also decided to paint the center stripe down the hood and top of car to see how it would look prior to finalizing the body and paint. I also installed a pair of early 1990s Mazda Miata seats I painted the spinners, air dam and center stripe all the same color:...

Moving onto the block,EVERYTHING was mint, barely a mark on the cylinder walls. Or the crank/bearings,they were spot less. Being the old l24 with an e31 head I did get abit lucky. The pistons had alot of stuff in them to,but cleaned up and looked like new, basicly all the rings were seized so they were pulled out, grooves cleaned, new rings in and staggered. Everything is just about together and all painted now. And so far I have a whole $270 into...

Took the engine and front suspension out of the ra, same way as with the Z but with a crane to lift the front :P Much easier! **Note the water on the floor, had to wash out the coolant that came out of the radiator that had no drain plug and was sikaflexed together!?! Also mounted up the fender mirrors to gauge what they look like. Going to take a bit of getting used to but I really like them! Still have to figure out how to get the mirror...

Update: Went home this weekend and finished up the rotisserie. Putting the car on was a bit of a trick but we got it with 3 guys. Wouldn't want to do it alone. Amazingly the car didn't fall on the ground. Success fells good. I ran out of time to take good phots but i did snap some on my cell.

Hey guys. Got some good news and some bad news. Good news is that I got that damn body kit off save the bumper. Looks ten times better! I'll get some pictures up soon. Been busy over here with midterms and such. Bad news is that the Z is running horrible. Its been stuttering since I bought it and I thought it might improve once I started driving it since it hadn't been driven much the past year and a half. Scratch that theory! The...

I'm finally doing some little things to make the car more comfortable and easier to live with. I have an old panasonic head unit that came out before every head unit had an "Ipod" input standard. It just has the two RCA cables coming out of the back for an auxilary input. I've been using a wire that converts the two RCA cables into a 3.5mm jack. The wire just came up through the back of the shifter hole. It was...

Here is a picture of what she looked like shortly after I purchased her.
Not too long after this picture was taken the modifications began. The car was in dire need of new shocks, springs and bushings. This is how you catch the dreaded "while I'm at it disease". I decided that since I was going to have the suspension apart I might as well strip the parts down and paint them. Well, if ...

Hey guys, I haven't been active much at all on here but I have been ghosting the forum for around the last 4 years and reading up while I was looking for my Z.
Ok, so where to begin.

Guys,
I'm in the middle of doing the P30-0032 bilstein upgrade, and switching to coil-overs on my 280z. I just thought I'd document what I've done so far here.
The parts:

- Threaded Alu sleeves: 4 x COK12452-H @ USD18.80 ea

i should have started this thread months ago. oh, well.
the project's initial intent was to purchase john coffey's carbon fiber hood and hatch and to
get the two panels painted "a close enough match" to the rest of the car.
i obviously was looking to lose some weight for autocross, as opposed to infusing a bling bling

Paul picked up the car for me on Friday and took it to his house. I went over on Saturday and he and I began stripping the car in preparation for paint. We left the car on the trailer since we hoped to take it to the painter as soon as we were done. This actually made some of the work easier, since the car was sitting higher.
I took as much as I could out from the engine bay and removed ...
