Well that pretty much brings hings up to date. I intend to start working on the mechanical systems next. However, before moving on, I needed a little assurance that my bodywork, rough as it is, was at least "not horrible". With the body sporting so many different colors, my eye couldn't focus on shape. So I applied two coats of grey primer surfacer to the entire car. The result? Pleasing. Not perfect, but good enough to...

Well I really enjoyed my visit to Alabama for the holidays and taking break from Z was even better : ). Last night I was really tired so I really didn't feel like sticking around for long and in turn not much was done lol. Here are few pictures of what was accomplished. Nice and comfortable in corner of the fab shop Drew building upper intercooler bracket I had to shorten downpipe by good amount so that massive v-band clamp would clear...

I got these Modern Motorsports Z31 half shafts to S30 axle adapers in the mail yesterday. These things are VERY heavy duty. There is no doubt that something else will break before these do. I also purchased new bearings from Motorsport Auto so I can swap out my stock 240 axles for 280 axles.

My 73 z and modest goals
Published (2009-11-30 00:07:00)
I've got really smalltime goals compared to HZ standards. What I really want to do is drive the thing and have some fun with it. The only priority modifications are simple ignition and electrical upgrades for reliability. In the not too distant future I hope to swap out the L24, 4 speed, and carbs for an L28et and a 5 speed. The suspension and steering are pretty good but I'm still getting used to the non power steering. Might do...

I got some shiny parts in last night. I took these pictures at night, but you get the idea. I was leery of getting the ones with the Summit logo, but I like them now.

Went to Tube Service today for some 2" square tubing. I'm redoing the rocker panels and welding in a temporary floor to get me rolling again. My welding will finally be returned to me after a 9 month lone to a family member. Never let family borrow your expensive tools. I was supposed to have this back in JUNE!!!!!! I got the car back into the shop tonight, so it can dry out and await me working on it. Gotta love Thanksgiving...

I bought Ray's glass door panel skins because they were cheaper than buying the oem cardboard ones, which seemed cheaply made anyway. I figured I can have them covered down the line but they might look good enough just flat black. The only problem is they are easily scuffed and starting to show wear. They took quite a bit of prep after all because the surfaces were quite porous and not at all ready for paint, but it worked out okay. I...

…and the way its going it will take eternity to finish! On the serious note I am going to keep this journal so that way I can stay motivated to keep doing whatever it is that I am doing : ) Original plan was to get her running within year but as life goes some things just cant be planed and due to unfortunate events this build will take me several years yes SEVERAL years to complete. I originally...

I have decent room on all sides, but its a little close for comfort. So, I got some furniture dollys from Harbor Freight for 10 bucks a pop. They help in so many ways, I can move the car side to side and it props it up 6 inches, which makes a difference when you are working on lower body work.
Oh, here is one of my inspectors. All work must be supervised and inspected for Cat ...

My VR body kit came as nine separate fiberglass pieces:
1 Rear Tub
1 Tilt Front End
2 Front Quarter Panels
2 Door skins
1 Trunk Lid
1 Windshield Cap
1 Le Mans gas Cap pocket
I decided to start with the rear tub. I attached the tub with a combination of short strand fiberglass adhesive and expanding foam. The fiberglass is used to attach the tub to the door jams. The ...

The Z was listed in the "cars for sale" section and looked like a good candidate. It was an early 260Z from the San Jose Ca. area. It was a young guys uncompleted project. The engine was partially disasembled and it had a ZX 5spd installed. The car was almost rust free, The only problem area was under the battery and it was still basically sound and only needed surface rust cleaned up and treated...
