Some progress today and not . Well, I have the water wetter and decided to continue on with the cooling system mods. I have installed the CSR electric water pump. The gasket that I used was new but didn't seem to fit correctly and I think I tore it as I was putting the pump in. SO! It leaked after I tried to fill the engine with water to rinse all of the waterways of ethylene glycol! Damn. The other thing that was replaced was the fan...

Yeah my 42 had valves and the whole nine yards done. I think the shop was called Dr. Z's or something like that. He was in Orlando Fl. Thats who did it for me. Its a nice head and I'm very lucky I was able to hang on to it all these years. I had triples at one point with that head. I had to sell them when I was 21 to pay for a plane ticket home to ohio for a funeral. Thats when I went back to the dvg's. I did try the 42 with the...

S30 Oil Pressure Gauge Improvement
Published (2009-12-24 11:29:00)
For those of you with S30 cars, you should know that the stock oil pressure gauge can often be inaccurate. While tracking down an oil pressure issue I temporarily attached a mechanical gauge and found that the stock gauge was wildly inaccurate. The pressure read much higher than it really was across the rev range. I only had 50 psi max, even at 7k rpm even though the gauge was reading 80 psi. After solving the oil pressure issue I looked at...

this is a bit sad to see... from my very limited understanding the focus of home porting on this head should have focused primarily on reshaping the areas on and around the valve guide? I'm messing around with a bit of home porting myself at the moment and this is a great example of a "what not to do". I'd love to hear some reflections on what went wrong and why from people in the know... post mortem? Cheers, Pete.

John is a super nice guy. If buying L-series parts from him, bid with confidence. I bought this IR Fuel injection manifold from him a few years back.

Sticky in the misc. section. Fantastic read! Synopsis: Chapter one - motor oil 101 The way motor oil is labeled is inherently misleading. Most people think a 0W-30 is too thin for an engine that recommends 10W-30. This is wrong. People think in terms of the oil thinning when it gets hot, they think this thinning with heat is the problem with motor oil. It is more correct to think that oil thickens when it cools and THIS is the problem. Oils...

Ordered some Redline water wetter solution today. When I asked for it from my local spare parts dealer, I got nothing but a blank look ...'huh?'
So I searched ebay and found someone here in Oz who sells it. Needless to say, I bought some on recommendation from others in the 'head cooling around cylinder 5' sticky.
That's a bloody good read with some great information in there, ...

They should be able to help you. It would be cheaper to buy a barbed fuel rail than to put rebuilt 11mm 0 ringed injectors in.
The 11mm injectors are typically used in Honda/Mitsubishi applications.

Just try to buy one off someone on craigslist used for cheap or Motorsportauto for like $60 if noise is only your issue. Unless you are lacking fuel pressure then that is much cheaper and as simple as undoing some bolts and being careful to not ruin your gaskets. Good luck.

I used a Harbor Freight set on my z31. The dies and taps were fine. The tap wrench was junk.

After viewng the "fastest street driven" thread I really think us L guys should have our own little show off thread. So many people over look these little beastly motors and the potential they have.
I am thinking set up a list of the fasted L-powered Z cars. You may be asked to prove you times with both a scan of your timeslip AND a link to a video of the pass. So be prepaired....

It is for cooling the piston. My thoughts are for a moderately to highly boosted L-series, that the oil squirter should be retained as the pistons need all the help they can get in keeping cool.

Turbocharger prices and choices
I am working on my L28ET and am in need of a turbo; what should I pay for a used, but in spec, stock Nissan T3? Also, what is everyone else using and where did you buy it/how much did you pay?
Thank you.
