Wow. I gotta get on mine. I've followed this thread since it started, watching a guy start and mostly finish his project and I still haven't fired the engine in the car yet and I had a year head start. Thanks for the inspiration, I'm heading out to the garage now.

You need the EGR to pass smog. If the guy notices you don't have a cat you also wont be able to pass.

Emissions Question
Published (2009-12-14 11:21:00)
Ok guys, The parents want to throw down with me on a graduation present. I have a '79 280zx, but they want me to get something more reliable for college (in addition to the Z). I found a great deal on a 1999 camaro ss, with the ls1 and t56. It however had the EGR and catalytic converters removed. . . Will this car still pass emissions testing? I wouldn't want to buy a car and not be able to drive it Thanks

After my winter engine swap project turned into two winters and a summer I suggest you tackle as much as you can this winter. Drive it like that next year then start the rest next winter. What good is finishing the build next fall - just in time to park it for the winter? It sucked being without a toy for that long and the motivation shrinks the longer it's on stands. Those are my 'words of ...

great pics. i am assuming the crossmember is just a mockup, and not the actual piece you'll be resting the engine on
How are you doing your wiring, and since you're local, maybe I can bug you for a hand with my LS1 wiring, hehe.

Before you even figure out if they will fit the Z chassis, they can only be used if you have no a/c compressor and a high-mounted alternator or both compressor and alternator high-mounted. If that is all OK, then the issue is clearing the steering shaft.
I have a pair from a 5.3L you have cheap to help me clean out the garage.
In the pics, the one on top would be on the drivers-side.

Why are you replacing the SBC?
For the LS1, I bought mine on Ebay from a company called fparts. They are highly respected and reliable for LS style engines.
