Nokia Messaging works great since the HTML update. Being able to put it on E: would be nice, but hasn't proven an issue to me for my couple of moderate traffic gmail accounts.

E51 was one of the greatest phones I've owned, I still miss it sometimes. There are no issues with browsing other than the most obvious one - screen size! Hope u got good eyes. Other that that the phone is pretty old now and there are better alternatives. Aatleast buy the e71 they going really cheap these days 239 on buy.com, much better phone. Or if u don't like that go for either ...

Try (re)installing firmware using NaviFirm (to get the firmware) and JAF.
Some instructions are posted here (in the context of language change; you can ignore that part). Also some links are broken, so you may need to search for JAF and NaviFirm on your own.

Are you talking about name display when the call is COMING in? Or when, lets say, you miss the call and in the missed call log, it only displays the # instead of the name?
If you are talking about the latter case, that is an inherent bug within S60 that has never been cured. Doesn't occur in S40 though, go figure.

The more I look into the N97, the more I'm intrigued by the integration of Nokia's own services.
This phone really will make it or break it.
N86 on the other hand - I dont knw where it's being positioned, considering N85 is still new.

You can get a E72 and you'll have access to the front-facing camera
Wonder why video-calling never took-off anywhere really, not even in Europe where the service is widely avail.

Steve Litchfield rates the Mini tops among currently available phones in his Phones Show #94. The build quality, he says, is so good that Nokia should have named it the "E91." It fixes most of the drawbacks of the N97. C drive space has doubled, the keyboard is much improved, GPS lock is faster, and the reduced size makes the phone better as a one-handed device. On the downside, ...
