Sort of. You can do the voice part of GV through data. Also, I don't think they support porting a real number into it yet, except for a very limited number of customers. I would not recommend trying to kludge around the text messaging thing, part of the reason text is so useful is that even when data and voice aren't available, a bar or just service without bars and send/receive texts.

So if at&t gets the 700mhz D block license later will the licenses they bought now be worth nothing? Or can they sell it? your saying the 700 mhz D block is a nation wide license just like Verizon got?

All AT&T has to do is buy out the license holders for the A and B blocks. AT&T is much larger than those companies, so that shouldn't be an issue. AT&T's real concern at this point, though, should be acquiring 850 MHz spectrum in all markets. The reason is that all 850 MHz networks are already built out, so the backhaul, equipment sheds, towers, etc., are already in place. I expect AT&T to make a bid...

Sure they will:
1) 700mhz D block failed to meet the minimum bid. This was a nationwide license (Verizon's C block is actually 6 regional licenses + Hawaii (not Alaska..) although the effect is about the same.) It had odd terms, it is listed by some as a 10mhz license but actually is 22mhz just like the C block, 12mhz was to be used for public safety. I would guess ...

If it was a TP2 with extension, I'd buy it (most likely a ton of MIR though ).
My contract is in month 11 of 12 months, and I'm up for renewal.

Same thing happened to me; I have a Bold and put the SIM from my iPhone to it. The Blackberry sign was missing and I could get no e-mail and my BBM did not work. I had to have them "provision" the Blackberry personal plan to get it to work.

Have you looked at the new HTC HD2 units? They currently lack US 3G, but you could put your plan on a $15 unlimited medianet and save $15 month ongoing...And it is actually superior in many ways to the iPhone.

That should be very good for Michigan and Indiana.

Before cingular was cingular, in my area, it was Bell South DCS, and I had a Nokia, with a wood grain casing, can't recall the model. But is was gsm, with a very, very limited service area. circa 1996. Oh, while in it's tiny coverage area, you could talk on it, only.

You should definitely control/curb your usage. You're the reason why unlimited all-you-can-eat data plans are not economically feasible for the long term and why providers will have to switch to tiered or metered data plans in the future.

Can't help much, but I live in NH and use ATT as my primary. Where were you that you were roaming? ATT has pretty good coverage over most of the state and where they have no coverage, you can't even roam. Hence I carry a Verizon phone as well for that reason.
A couple times I have hit a Canadian tower and ATT tried to hit me for international roaming but we quickly fixed ...

I am yet to meet a Verizon user who has used as much data as the average at&t user. Heck, most of my Verizon friends don't even have a data package; most of my at&t friends, however, have a data package (though, most have a smartphone in the first place).
