What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? It would probably load & run, but not very well. I wouldn't bother with
upgrading it. XP has a base line memory footprint of 225+ Megabytes.
That spec alone is enough to retire your Windows 98 PC.
As far as cost goes, PC prices are so affordable a new desktop can be
bought for not much more than a XP license. New/Latest hardware has
many advantages over trying to use an operating system...

Don't know about their registry scan but their driver scan prompted me to

You could try the free trial version of Casper 6.0. It can make a clone
from your current 120 gig hard drive to a new 500 gig hard drive by mounting
the new drive in either a USB or SATA connected external holder or in the
second position internal slot. Then you would have an exact replica of your
original drive on the new 500 gig drive with all that neat new space.

You probably won't need to reinstall Windows. You could uninstall any
applications you may have installed after you bought the computer, and
reinstall them and tell it to install on one of the other partitions. It
will set up a desktop shortcut that will point to the appropriate directory,
then you can move any saved data to the other drive.
