I am thinking something like is used from the factory these days to hold dashes together, the little "j" clips that go in and then have to be popped out because of the sprung hook.

Hello Dan, Yes! I was hoping you'd see the post and reply. You helped me with something a couple of years ago so I'd be anxious for your input. Pictures help me a bunch, too. Jeff

Yes, you can do this yourself with very good results. You generally do the most difficult areas first,( in this case, the two curved vertical back corners,) and then the large straight areas which are the easiest. The back corners can be done in the vehicle, and the rest can be done as straight panels. On the other hand, you can do the whole thing right in the truck if you want to. If you don't have somebody to help you, really strong...

If that feed dog moves back and forth as you sew, then it's a walking foot. If it stays stationary as you sew, then it isn't. A walking foot pulls the material as you sew.

I did mine by myself. It does help to have an extra set of hands to help out, but I am by no means an upholsterer. It's not that difficult to do.

First of all, I don't want to throw cold water on you , but let me warn you that it doesn't matter who you know in this business, it's who you show. In other words, you need to produce a volume of work, over a significant period of time, to prove to people that they can depend on you to do the highest quality of work on their car. Customers also want to know that you have a stable business ...

If it was me, and this was my first car interior, I would get ready made carpet and the insulation that comes with it from a place like Auto Custom Carpets. CLICK HERE There are others on line. I had a customer bring me pre-made carpet and jute padding from them for his '53 Chevy, and it worked out real well. I had to tweak it a little, but it went in just fine. I also bought carpet from...

I used some vent ends from an old Ford truck. Early fifties. They look like a stepped on funnel.
I slotted the top of the dash under the windshield, driver and pass side and mounted the funnels to the underside. A little fabrication. Construction adhesive. Then used the black cloth over wire tubing to connect to a late forties heater.
Gotta have defrost vents if ya wanna play ...

I have this in my 59
(well, an older version of the same regulater)
not likely that it will co-operate with any sort of a curve at all.
My 66 Elky has a very slight curve in the glass as well, and there is actually quite a bit of lateral movement with the bottom sash of the glass.
Have you considered looking into the late 70s Mercs or lincolns for something compatible??
Might ...

My exwife and I used to do upholstery. I don't know as much as she did about doing upholstery type of work, but I do know you need a machine with a walking foot. Do yours have that? We did custom boat/vehicle seats, and sewed through quite a few layers of material at times, and the machine with the walking foot had no problem. Maybe inquire with an upholsterer with your plans, type of machine, ...

I reupholstered my own cushions without the piping, and first thing I noticed, was, it was way more comfortable. Not sure about the wear factor yet. It's only been a year and a half, but so far, so good! And I like the looks either way. Good luck!
