Float level, inlet valve, bad float, Damaged or worn needle valves, worn throttle plate rod. sticking throttle blades. Leaking power brake booster, vacuum leaks on the intake. Egr valve sticking (if you have one), sugar in the fuel system, weak throttle return spring. Dirty air cleaner, or just the fact it's a Carter.

Speedo No Go
Published (2009-11-25 13:41:00)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Haven't checked the upper cable yet, but noticed a small leak coming fron the tranny where the lower cables goes. Is it necessary to remove the any of the dash components to get to the spot where the upper cable runs into the speedo. I can reach it from under the dash. Don't want to turn something simple into a problem, seeing that I'm doing alot...

This has been posted many, many times and 90% of the time Carter AFB's and and Edelbrock Performers do not like fuel pressure in excess of 5.5 psi, they actually run best at 4.5 to 5 psi if you do not have a fuel pressure regulator you need to get one. Many stock pumps will put out 7 psi plus even though the gph output is lower than a performance pump.

Unfortunately, there is no ONE right way. Some measure from the wheel-mounting surfaces, some from the inside of the backing plates, some from the axle ends (which generally protrude past the wheel-mounting surfaces) So - to answer your question - so long as you measure the same way every time, you will be consistent If you measure the one that you now have and then search the junkyards for the "better" one, just be sure you...

what yr chevy is this?
Published (2009-11-24 17:07:00)
Here's what you do: Buy it, and say it's a parts car for another chevy you have (or chrysler, I put that by a few girls in my day "Chevy is short for Chrysler!" or just pick another another car and say they are both GM "No, really, Plymouth was sold to Chrysler from Ford, don't you remember?") and then don't sweat it. Getting projects is easy, keeping them is easy. Getting rid of...

^^^^ Agree, giving up cubes is just the wrong move all the way around. You could make anywhere from 0 to 650+ hp with the 400 depending on what parts are used, you're going to have to give us more info about what you are using.

there is no replacement for cubic inch displacement. i'm a fan of the stoked 350's but they are a good motor, but even when both motors are built to the max a stroked 350 wont match a 400, i'm also a fan of stroking a 400

FWIW, my buddy owns several upscale (read nice) DIY car washes. He gets really ticked when mudders roll their trucks into a stall and dump several hundred pounds of mud. He also does not take kindly to shade tree mechanics cleaning auto parts in his stalls that spatter grease all over the walls. I have been at his shop before where one of his car washes is and actually seen him run off mudders ...

Why would you take a perfectly good 400 and use the crank to make a 383? That`s almost laughable. The 383 on it`s best day won`t compete against a 400. There`s nothing special about a 383, other than maybe the fact some guys make it out to be special just because it`s a "stroker" You can`t beat cubic inches.

You need to check the suffix code on the engine block....It is on a pad right in front of the pass side head...last 2 or 3 letters and look it up here. http://www.nastyz28.com/chevy-engin...ings.php#suf fix The L79 cars came with a 12 bolt...Personally, I would be leery until checked out. edit...Sorry, didn't read about wrong engine.......info would be a code on the firewall tag...
