How to ground a compressor?
Published (2009-11-29 20:26:00)
You gents are correct. I took a look in the recepticle and in the box and I've got 2 hots (one black, one white) and a big ground wire. So it looks like I'm in business. Thanks for the reminder about upgrading the wire and breaker if needed. Thanks again guys for sharing your expertise with a noob. It is appreciated tremendously!

IronHorse Compressors

Except for the paint these are identical to the Kobalt at Lowes and several other brand names. From what I have seen of them I would rate them at least as average, that is not top of the line but not bad for the money either assuming you are getting it cheap. You are buying used I assume? The Kobalt sells for around $750 at Lowes and it appears to be OK from a quality standpoint. One thing that I noticed on these is a finned line going to all...

Tap and die set questions
Published (2009-11-27 16:50:00)
I too bought a bigger set of cheap tap and dies, bad idea. most of the smaller ones were softer than the aluminum that I was trying to restore. bet you guessed they came from china. the case however is very useful to put the replacement dies into. even the autozone dies are infinitely better.those are doing very well for me as I don't use them often. buy quality, it pays.

My Co-workers creeper.

I kinda got away from any creepers with wheels.Back in my long hair days I got my pony tail so tangled up in the wheel I had to get someone to pull me out or I'd still be stuck under there.I didnt have any sissors with me... I keep a roll of tar paper around for stripping cars ,it keeps the crap off the floor and I use it for laying on even though I cut my hair years ago...it's handy for a bunch of stuff..cheap too...

Fuel Injection Canister Cleaner

Has anyone ever used one of these? Are they easy to use, are they effective? I'm wondering if its a worthwhile investment. Harbor Freight has them for around 70-80 bucks, I've seen them on sale for 60 though. Just curious, Thanks guys. Happy Thanksgiving

air compressor drain plug
Published (2009-11-26 10:00:00)
I have a HDA70600AV filter from HD, although I havn't tried to clean it out yet. I have heard it isn't very easy to work with. i didnt do much research before i bought it, my fault. I do not do much painting, mostly priming and using air tools. Any tips on cleaning the filter i have? I am concerned I will get it apart and it will not go back together and then I will be without air. I will take a look at the drain from HF and see if...

How to ground a compressor?

Lhorn I am here almost every day and can't answer the majority of questions I read. I know enough to work on my own vehicles but couldn't tell you jack nothin' about an automatic trans, for example, except how to change the fluid and filter. I have little bodywork experience, even less paint exp. so when I saw a question i COULD answer I am more than willing to help !!! With the info you have given I feel sure you should be fine.

You don't need a neutral, buy only 2 hots and a neutral? Am I missing somthing here?

You'll need the compressor wired to a correct amped breaker, and use the correct wire size. Can't help on the reviews. 930

I have the same jack from Sams Club that i bought a few years back and i have the same problem. I just started to fi it now and realized that the universal joint that connects the handle to the actual jack cyclinder came apart. The u-joint is located under the magnetic tray where the base of the handle pivots.
Now i am trying to figure out where to get a replacement part, or pins that i ...

I have made and used several of these from old fire extinguisher bottles. but, a few warnings!!!!! gm systems use up to 75 lbs of pressure and they got to be well made to hold that and more. some person will not be so careful and overcharge it someday. we used bronze welds on them and it does great. helps a lot to have gauges and fittings laying around the shop to reuse. old ac freon ...

That is the system I am currently installing in my shop. I am just now to the point of pouring the concrete.
I put 8 inches of sand base down, and compacted it, then two layers of poly vapor barrier. I topped that with 5 inches of hi-density foam, and laid out the re-bar.
Then following directions on the net I got the right kind of PEX tubing and laid it out so that all around the ...

I gave up on shop lights, even the LED ones are so cheap they don't last long. I have a set of safety glasses with swivelable LED's on them that are really great, I use them all the time because they point where I am looking and are very bright. The fact they protect my eyes at the same time is a bonus, amazingly I haven't broke them in 2 years and are still on the first set of batteries!
