Hypereutectic vs. forged pistons?
Published (2009-11-07 02:35:00)
Hyper pistons are pretty stout and will live providing you keep the engine out of detonation. Forged pistons are one in the same, only they last a little longer under detonation. I`ve used the speed pro hyper coated skirt pistons in several successful builds and one of those builds is a daily driven street vehicle that gets raced on the weekends. However mudding is completely different than drag racing and since we used to mud race as well as...

Its decent. I wouldn't run it on an all out competition einge, but for your application it should be more than adequate.

the DCR is 8.5:1 is that alright? I used the calulcator at kb-silvolites site and they said to use the intake closing point and rod length. If the closing point was given at .050 lift like mine was 44* add 15 degrees to that so i got 59*. heres the link http://kb-silvolite.com/calc.php?action=comp

Agree with DoubleVision, if you are going to lug it into the mud very much get the Forged pistons. Mud is a pretty hard enviroment for the engine to work in.

Again what cam is in it? (ya it matters) What are you setting the timing at and what rpm are you warming up the engine at? or attempting to warm up the engine at? Have you verified that you do have compression in all 8 cylinders? (Compression test)

lol heat problem
Published (2009-11-06 18:51:00)
After you warm up the engine, turn your heater on high temp and feel both heater hoses. If thier both hot, you have flow through the heater core. That would indicate a door control problem in the heater box. If one is hot and the other cool, you have a blocked core or a flow problem. You've already checked the core and it was OK, so you need to look at flow. Check for an external valve somewhere on one of the heater hoses just before the...

It depends on the rest of the system, in general turbo's are more efficent, BUT results may vary according to how the rest of the engine is built. It also depends on what type of blower you are talking about.

I guess alot of that is up to you. There are much more effiecent cams now and vortec heads can be had for cheaper than reworking old heads. But if you want an all or more original car than stick with what you got.

For the money , you can't beat magnaflow. Stainless is better than crappy mild steel of crapmasters and they really flow, unlike chokemaster mufflers. Plus with a 8.5 to 1 compression 305, and a cat, you are not gonna have alot of noise anyway, even if you ran straight manifolds.

Running a 6-71 on a 468 at 9% under-driven you are making absolutely no boost. You need to run 1:1 just to make 2 pounds. In my opinion, a 6-71 is too small for a BBC. To make any appreciable boost you're going to have to over drive the blower by at least 10% (5 pounds). The faster you spin the blower, the more heat you add to the charge. Heat lowers your detonation margin. Also, the ...

In my experience, this will apply to duration more than lift. When changing from 1.5 to 1.6 rockers for instance, I normally see only about a 12 hp increase on average. A change in duration will be more dramatic. I applaud you for leaning on the math to try to figure this out. Math is definitive. There are no gray areas. I have never applied math to the relationship of duration to CID as a...

If you have to pass emissions testing in your area, removal of the cat will result in failure by the emissions nazis. Since the early 80's, 3-way cats have been used. They serve these functions.... 1. Conversion of nitrogen oxides to nitrogen and oxygen. 2. Oxidation of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. 3. Oxidation of unburned hydrocarbons to carbon dioxide and water. Generally ...

Yuo really need a mild convertor and get rid of the double pumper. A vac secondary 750 would be a better setup. Also what heads? That cam needs a little compression. If you have 119cc heads you will need a different cam to build low end torque/throttle response.
