I'm not up on Olds stuff too much, just know the A,B,C,D castings are the ones to find. I thought the farther down the alphabet you went the worse they got. Maybe I'm out to lunch on this?? www.oldsmobility.com for links to Olds related stuff. www.442.com

Edelbrock or Flow Kooler pump
Published (2009-11-22 22:19:00)
Either one should work fine Tom. Only time I ever used Flow Kooler products was when I installed a disc on the impeller of my stock water pump and it did as it said it would do. Of course we`ve all used Edelbrocks stuff, and while I`ve never had a problem with there intakes I hate there carbs. However I have heard good things about there water pumps as well. Flip a coin on it, either will fill the bill.

I lose compression w/ valve adjust
Published (2009-11-22 22:01:00)
Instead of spinning the push rod in your fingers to sense the o lash point, move the rocker up and down, up and down. Stop tightening as soon as the push rod no longer goes up and down in your fingers. Then with all the plugs removed turn the motor over by hand checking each cylinder spark plug hole for compression using your finger over the spark plug hole as you progress thru the firing order. Each cylinder will come up on compression...

HB- Harold Brookshire, one of the most renowned cam guys that posts on auto forums, has done a LOT of cam work and is very good, any one who knows him will atest to that. And by long time ago I was referering to before they were bought out. Like 6-7 years I believe. which to some guys is a drop in the hat, but to me it was a while, I guess its all relative. Bogie's post was good but you don't necessarily need more lift or duration,...

cam suggestion..
Published (2009-11-21 08:27:00)
no, a 114 will close the valve 4 degrees later. remember the crank to cam is a 2:1 ratio. 280 with 114 lsa has the same intake closing point as a 288 cam with 110 lsa. rpm and dcr effects are a debatable topic. I see about a 50/50 mix there. some say no effect and other say there is one. but, yes, a 292H with a 3000 would be a good combo. I ran that setup for a few years with good results.

Yup, T-tops are not a good choice for racing. Start looking for sheet metal cracks where the roof panel meets the quarter panel.

The pistons are cheap because they are "rebuilder" pistons. The correct compression height for a 350 piston is 1.560, these pistons have 1.540. This kills compression and quench. Yes they make a 1 to 2 piece seal adapter but it costs over a 100 bucks and that was at a few years ago pricing. Since most small block pieces interchange on generation 1 engines any heads will bolt on as will most all ...

Hi, If the only reason your buying this car is for the engine then you should pass on it, you can't bore a 305ci out to 327ci so I would think someone isn't getting the facts straight, go back & talk to this person again & find out exactly what's what Also you would probably have an easer time of it if you just looked for a 350 to put into the chevelle. Good luck, Rich

Is the pop thru the carb or exhaust ? 2 sizes on the primaries should work OK I would leave the rear the same size You may want to pick up a trick kit for the carb, I have good experience with the pink squirter cam it's on a constant rise, a smaller squirter would help with the shot of gas needed for the upper end transaction. You say it's not using oil, are you sure, have you documented it? There is no way oil can get from inside the engine to the threads of the spark plugs. Perhaps they were oily when installed. Smoke on startup is a sign of valve guide wear, not condensation. Vince

those numbers sound like the casting number for the heads the block casting should be around where the starter goes toward the rear of the block and unless you have head castings DO0E-R you will have a pretty plain engine the pre 72 heads are the good ones also i think pre 72 block deck height is shorter

This is all depedent on use or service you expect. Auto/manual? There are many very good engine guy's here so defer to them for exact specs. For street use for a heavy vehicle I would stay at 10 to 1 compresssion, mild to moderate cam lift and low duration. This will give you good off the line torque. Timing is different with each set up but the rule of thumb the advance it in soon ...

Unless this is a race car I would not need much cam info. to build you a converter. However I would need to know: purpose of the vehicle i.e. street only or street/strip. is the cam hyd, solid, roller, flat. The lifters can help with some of that info. anything you can tell me about the engine could help. what performance are you looking to get out of this car. By the ...
