I don't know, haven't bought anything off the gouger tool trucks in years, but many years ago, seems like most of the spray guns on the tool trucks were sharpes. Got my first gun off of one of the tool guys, a conventional sharpe 775. Liked that gun. Then bought one of the earlier hvlps (around 1994ish)off the snap on guy, a sharpe, believe 998? Kept that one day and hated it, told him to take that pos back.

Body Filler Over Metal

Wow, not to open a can, but what about those of us not in a restoration or collision circumstance? I just want my car straight, but can't spray epoxy at the moment due to where Im located. I would love to be able to setup a gun and mix 2k primer, but that isn't an option at the moment, and Id rather learn/do the work myself than take it to a shop.

Your VENT HOLE is clogged. Either a siphon or gravity gun has an AIR VENT in the cap. If it's blocked with residue.NO air can enter the cup and you create a VACUME as the paint is pulled out and then,It STOPS. The old siphon gun "may" have a tube routed to the yoke and the "hole" is under the yoke,A gravity feed has the hole in the cup lid center top.May need to remove a "cap" or...

Car cover good idea or bad?

First of all, I live in Lake Tomahawk. Tomahawk is 30 miles south of here. I got mine at Menard's in Rhinelander, but I'm sure they would have them at all the Menard's stores. The brand name is Roundtop, and it's called garage-in-a-box.

hazing in the clearcoat? help...
Published (2009-11-09 22:42:00)
Barry is right, most people rush to get the second and third coats on. What seems like 20 minutes of waiting is usually 5 minutes. You get rushed to get the job done and apply the next coat way to early. The solvents (reducers) get trapped under the next coat and after 3 coats of base, that's a lot of solvent under there. It works it's way to the clear and clouds the clear. The next event will be delamination. Frank Cox Cox Custom...

Well it's been a while since I have posted any pics. I recently finally had some time to get back on the car. I painted my console and re carpeted the interior, redid door panels (2nd design) and will start on the area behind the seat.
I heard a nasty rumor that Bart aka Steve sold his 34 Minoti project to some guy in Sweden . Tell me it ain't so Steve

Yes those colors are the ones that cause the problems 99% of the time.
Remember, contrary to what the cut and paster moderators post on here (just a couple)
Humidity plays a big roll as to how fast the solvents get out, so when the humidity is high, it is very important that the first coat gets extra flash time.
A good rule of thumb is at 70 degrees 50% humidity or more first coat ...

I would not spray down the chassis with WD40 or any other kind of oil, it will just cause you problems down the road. You will probably get people recommending Ospho and POR15 and epoxy and other various products.
If it were mine, I wouldn't worry about it. A little surface rust is not a big deal. When it comes time to paint the chassis you will be sanding it with 80# to prep it for epoxy ...

Most buick and olds parts from the 30's will fit pontiac's. I don't know when they changed to make chevy and pontiac blood brothers.

My Son went away on an extended hiking trip.
We parked his nice little VW Jetta (not stock, fun to drive) in the grass next to my garage.
I noticed a little water thru the cover.'
What we later found out was when it would rain the water would NOT go thru the cover, but it WOULD drain under the car.
Then the sun would come out and as the water evaporated it would condense UNDER the cover...

I've heard that one of the designers from Sata also designed a HVLP gun for Mac. Even though the guns may look different visually, the passages and functional parts are very similar to Sata. This is all just 2nd hand hearsay that I can't validate and haven't fully researched, so don't hold me to it!

colorsanding and buffing is normally next, considering it has imperfections you want to remove, you have enough material applied to do so, it can be buffed, and has cured long enough to do so.
You didn't say what paint you used, but since you said you applied a clearcoat, I am assuming its a base clear urethane. Most the buffing can be started the next day after painting, depending on the ...

I'm not an expert welder by any means ... just completed a night course at the local ag college.
Butt welds are tricky alright.
You want enough heat to acheive decent penetration and not just have your weld laying on top looking like rope. Unfortunately, it's quite likely that some of the deposited metal will leak right through if the seams aren't perfect.

Best to do all non-flat places by hand. Rub till shiny and smooth.
Swirl-mark remover or a final Glaze will remove fine compound marks.
