Can I throw out a recommendation for the Icon motorhead leather jacket? Since you are an ex-harley guy, this may work for you. It will work on a sportbike, and on a harley. It also isn't 'cut' like many of the sportbike jackets which make a person look like a matador. It looks like a regular jacket. But it has armor and has very thick leather. It will keep you safe. And, with the liner, it will also keep you warm in winter....

That's not the real JR jacket. Counterfeit from China. I have the real jacket, and the picture just didn't look right. Lots of things missing mine has. And I wonder what " Shell material 100% high qulity SIMILI CUIR" really is.

Tip #1 - Try before you buy. Ordering gear online doesn't always allow you to try gear on for proper fitment. Poorly fitting gear may not offer sufficient protection. Support your local shop whenever possible.

I wear an 80 dollar HJC. 6 moths later the paint has minor pealing.... Will it protect my head? You bet your ass it will. I think for the most part you pay for ergonomics and paint. If it is DOT approved you are good to go.
If it "helps" keeping from splattering your brains on the pavement it's a good helmet.
IF IT IS DOT approved.... it is good to go.

Funny you post about this. I had a Joe Rocket jacket that I sold on craigslist last year for $75 that would have matched your bike. Try looking on Ebay for something similar. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...R1000RR040. jpg http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...R1000RR041. jpg
