Don't know if our Chinese restaurant up the corner was closed because we didn't go that way. We had a nice dinner. We had an antipasto, and Ro made a homemade eggplant dish. I don't know the...

Although I was raised in the Catholic religion, I am now not a big fan of the Catholic Church or any other organized religions, which are really big businesses (just my opinion, folks).   Frankie, I was raised Catholic and feel exactly the same way as you do!  Although I do have to say that I've been to a few services over the years for other religions, and I've felt that a couple of them were more personalized and...

Luny coming home from my parents today we too were surprised that places that never had closed on Christmas day were dark today too. Like drug stores that carry everything from drugs to food. Also since we no longer take the local paper we raided the ads for the after Christmas sales from my parent's paper and we were shocked to see how few there were. In the past the ads in the Christmas Day paper equaled or surpassed the ones in the...

I am sorry you were not able to have your December 25th Chinese dinner but maybe next year you can plan to create your own. Lots of easy recipes for it out there and maybe even some on this board can contribute their favorites. Thanks, Holly.  I think we'll just have to plan on Christmas eve next year.  I can cook Chinese food myself, but it's just not the same as *the real thing*, if you know what I mean... The...

The traditional Italian seafood dinner on Christmas Eve came from the Catholic rule that one mustn't eat meat on Christmas Eve. Tony is already working on breading all his fish. They say that Italian Christmas Eve tradition is The Seven Fishes. I don't know that the seven are, but we only do four (fried squid, shrimp, scallops and flounder filet). He is also doing pasta with an oil and garlic sauce and another bowl with marinara sauce. Roseann is making a large antipasto. We'll also have shrimp cocktail. And there's ...

Kristi I hope you have some form of alternative heat. Although we only got a couple of rounds of half an inch here in central Ky the southeastern part of the state was hit hard and there are still over 40,000 without electricity and some without water due to having wells. Stay safe and enjoy the lasagna wherever you eat it. Holly

I feel stupid! One of the fine ladies on this board turned me on to 'Steel cut oatmeal' and I cannot remember who it was. I am worn out too, but the blasted cookies are finally baked and my menu for Christmas Eve has finally been set. So what I did today when we were out picking up some last minute things was to pick up a couple of steaks that hubby will cook on the grill. I'll nuke a potato and pour a salad out of a bag. Here in NC we're having a "wintery mix" of 2-4 inches. (snow, sleet, slush, black ice...) Some schools were let out early at just this prediction. They are gun shy since a few years back when kids were stuck on school buses on I-40 for 12 hours in a several mile long pile up on black ice. Other kids wound up staying overnight in school- they were the lucky ones. Since that time, early ...

So I washed all the cookie/cake racks, the stand mixer, the hand mixer, got out a plethora of various sized bowls, a load of dish towels and pot holders, all these piled neatly on the kitchen table for when they start making cookies. I'm not chomping at the bit too much to taste the first batches, am I? LOL. Got the snow shovels out, put the garbage pails near the side door, reversed the ...
