This doesn't make sense at all. You are using 170K BTU burners and want to get to at boil faster? Why? I think the 170K BTU burners will just melt the insulation off of the wires going to the element.

Yes the SSR is optically isolated but I'm planing to use logic gates to control a 5v ssr as a safety switch between the PID and SSR. Then I will also use the same logic circuit to tell me what is and is not working properly on an annunciator panel.

Nice work. I have a freezer with a Johnson controller but still using picnic taps. I've been bouncing between a collar or a tower/coffin top. I really like Jester's build too. This may be the inspiration I was looking for. A question for you... Does the cabinet knock down? In other words... if you need to move it (not just roll it around), do you have to move it as a unit, or is it possible to get the freezer out? Ed

Assuming you shield the wires from the flame are you sure you have 240 available? That's not terribly common with 3-phase. If you have 208 that works but your 5500 watts becomes 4100 watts. If you have 277 you'll want to choose an appropriate element.

First, it's a fun challenge. Second, it looks good. Third, you can do whatever you want with your system. The OP wanted a gauge. That's what we gave him.

I was thinking of Nail Polish. Comes in many cool colors, handy brush. Just got to sneak it out without getting caught. Or buy my own. Could use pinstripe tape to make a nice line and paint then peel away the tape. Not sure how the polish will hold up to cleaning. But worth a try, should be better than Sharpie.

Or mount it with the pump body running parallel with the front of the stand, so the inlet is right or left, and the outlet up?

I have considered those also. How well does the punch and die fit the curve of the keg? I'd think that they should work well. But a hole saw works pretty good and you need a drill for the punch anyway.

I am sure there are health issue associated with galvanized, at least in my own mind, that would negate it's use for me but from a design/build stand point fabrication with copper will be much easier, again "IMHO". Copper can be cut to exact lengths and sweating fittings is easier than it looks. Galvanied pipe is usually retailed in precut lengths because of the threading process. Threading a ...

Why weld the ball valve directly to the keg? Weld in a bulkhead fitting. That way you have the freedom to play around with different sized valves and accessories.

Saturday was brew rig day. The control panel structure is finished. I borrowed the idea of a collapsing control panel from some one on here. The name escapes me but, who ever you are thank you for the inspiration Built a small structure to raise the MLT heat exchanger above the march pump. I made a new sparge ring and it turned out much better than I expected. Finished up the last few ...

The ultra low watt density elements are probably too long to fit in a Sanke keg. You will most certainly not be able to run two 5500W elements on a single 30A circuit. Just one of them will draw 22A.

I wouldn't bother with either of those, you'll be slowing the pump down most of the time. I don't think i've ever wished mine would go faster. Save your money and make a switch for it. Out of the box the pump is a bit 'unfinished'.

I wouldn't use galvanized or black iron pipe. Copper is gonna be less expensive that stainless steel pipe. Sawdustguy has a great thread, "Rims for dummies" that has an excellent source for stainless if you decide to go that way. Ed

Actually flickering on and off or just "brown out" type dimming? I've had circuits "dim" and swapping out an old breaker fixed the issue.
