Question about BSRT G3/Sg+ gold...

Superfist, It was a stock SG+ arm, they both are. Whatever the ohms are on that. This is what I thought was odd. The arm I popped in was from an older black plastic SG+ chassis that had cracked. It was a good running car. Not as fast as my current favorite chassis. Not even sure why I switched arms. But when I put that older arm in, like I said it just flat out ran everybody. I later raced one of the guys who had a rtr BSRT, and he was the...

when you replaced the arm, which end bell did you use? the one from the broken chassis or the one from the race chassis? some end bells (like ones with nicely broken in brushes) can make a big difference. since you dont ream your bushings (which i do but think is a pain) you might consider buying pre-tweaked end bells (scale auto) or pretweaked bushings (scale auto or scale engineering) some guys like the blue poly bushings, i like the brass...

The Roles of Magnets, Voltage...

Plenty of good technical information here, but for the average layman it can be confusing. Lets try this: DC voltage uses a positive and negative connection. I think all of us have seen what happens if you cross those connections; you get a 'short'. With a slot car you are basically shorting those connections to make the motor turn. The amount of wire inside the motor is very long so the short is spread out over all that wire. Any...

Quote: The principle of resistance is how you control your slot cars. A controller is a device for controlling how much resistance is in the electrical path to the car/motor. This is only true for resistor style controllers, i.e., set controllers and Parma and the net result to the motor is a variable current source. The downfall with this style controller is the fact that controller reacts to the current draw of the motor. This causes the...

Help with Fitting Tires to Rims???
Published (2009-11-10 09:56:00)
I have put tires on the rims, on a spare axle rim setup and run them at a slow speed in a dremel and trim the edges with an xacto knive, you can then also sand them down to size and round-over the edges.

Jeff's right. You have to spin them up on some kind of mandrel at slow speed. Some compounds cut easier than others. It's handy to keep a set of calipers ready or at least a go-no-go tire guage so that yer work is even side to side. I use PVT tires exclusively on my HO projects. They grind nicely with 180 or 220 grit sand paper. For narrowing or cutting I use sharp scissors and then grind the rough edges off after they have been cut...

lack of amps causes heat build up due to the straining to move the mass. Strong magnets could cause a drag, lower magnets strength easier roll. think of amps as nailing the gas pedel and voltage as nos simple yet effective

The first mod you'll make to the motor is venting the endbell, which has been seen on several of my other pics. This doesnt occur stock, you must carefully take a razor blade or dremel and remove some material exposing the commutator and brushes. This allows soot to escape, promotes cooling, makes cleaning easier and allows you to see how your motor is running. Completely disassemble the ...

Dave, Lower ohm arms would need stronger motor mags. More important, your problem of the car slowing away from power source will need track power taps & higher amp power supply.

There is a group of drag racers that have websites up. Do a search and you should come up with a number that can be worked out into ft. per second. Make sure you check the voltage and rules they run under.

If what you are referring to as "steel" are a dull silver color they are silver plated copper. These are very good shoes, a bit better than the stock copper ones and considered a hop-up part. Silver is a better conductor than copper as well as being more resistant to oxidation. Silver is not as oxidation resistant as gold, but it's still better than copper. On HO slot cars, these are performance ...

About 36 ohms. The Model Motoring arms are notorious for ohming in the 50s. they would usually get about half way around the track and over heat and melt. I have some that have done that very thing and some that run like a top, but they're definitely hit and miss. hojoe

Find something steady to hold your arm in place, I like to poke a small hole in a cardboard box and place the arm with the poles up in the hole. Take your multi meter and set it to read ohm's.... touch one tip to the middle of one pole and the other tip in another one and take your reading. Repeat for the other 2 combinations of poles and you should have a good idea of what your arm will ohm...
