tv just fired up and for about 2 mins, had a perfect pic and remote allowed me to get into user menu. then screen lost all bright colors but pic still on, just real dark and tv would not respond to any commands from the remote nor would it turn off via remote. have to unplug. any ideas which part controls remote responses?

Likely the Ballast (what powers the lamp) could be failing. Do you hear a high pitched whirling sound until it powers off? If so that means it could be the color wheel.

Scoper, Great to hear that you've got it working. I just thought I'd mention that to keep the tv working as long as possible it is recommened that you don't do quick on/off cycles. It's best to let it run at least 20 min. after turning it on before turning it off. And once off, leaving it off for at least 20 min. till you turn it on again. It's all about letting it cool down before restarting. And if you will be gone...

I changed my resolution (after hooking up to old monitor) and It worked! However, I dont know the optimal settings (my entire tool bar doesn't appear on screen). It's too low. Is tehre a way to adjust this? Blckman: My computer is an HP Media Center m7467c 940 Intewl Viiv Technology with Intel Pentium D Processor featuring two processing cores 2.0 GB Ram ATI Radeon X1300 Pro Graphics card Does that help?

No , there is basically no difference among HDMI cables. Do not believe the hype you read and hear about " superior cables ". Unlike analog cables, HDMI cables only transmit " 1's and 0's ". As long as it can transmit those two digits, it's fine. Most $10 cables work just as well as $100 cables. The best cables for you are the ones that you can purchase for the least amount of money....

Well, I give up. I don't seem to be able to edit my own post so I'm just going to have to post a reply to add some more information.
When the picture goes 'green' the blue CRT is off, but after a minute or two (or a little thump) The Blue CRT will flicker on and off in a regular pattern.

Update: My new lamp came in so got it swapped out. I brought up my air compressor and being carefull blew out all the dust. Learned that this area where the bulb is placed actually vents out to both sides. Got a lot of dust coming out for the compressed air.
Got it all cleaned up and after installing the door I turned the TV on and reset the clock. I could hear fans running inside but ...

In the user guide it states that the DVI connection should not be attached to a computer...

From the service manual of the Sammy HLR: 40 vertical lines, 16 pixels wide-replace dmd board. Horizontal bars-replace dmd board.
I can't remember all the details about the menu, etc. But if the above resembles what you are seeing. It's the dmd board.

update:
just unplugged tv and reseated lamp. tv fired up for about 5 minutes and then lamp went out and tv was unresponsive to remote. will unplug and try again.

There was a lawsuit filed in 2007 against Mitsubishi over their design flaws, but apparently those have been corrected. I could not find a more recent suit. An extended warranty is never a bad idea, and may be a very good one since Mitsubishi will soon be the only manufacturer of DLPs ( Samsung is getting out of the DLP business ).
