Actionable Mango, a member at AVSForums and High Def Digest came up with a simple menu setting that fixes quite a lot of the Blu-ray discs that wouldn't load, including several Disney titles. The simple fix improves things with this player quit a lot. Chris

Quote: I don't recall those specific discs being problematic but there are a number of discs for both formats that create problems for this player. The AVSForum has a long thread on this player indicating lot of people having problems with many dics. The most recent firmware seems to have made things much worse. There are no dual format players that are reliable, all have way too many problems in my opinion. I thought this one was very...

Well this weekend I applied the FW that Bruceames provided in this thread. It did allow X-Men(BD) to play. So I popped in Clerks 2(HD-DVD) and the looping still occurred. The Superman Returns I have is the combo version. I didnt know there was a non-combo version. Star Trek does play, but it has to be hooked up to the network.

So even though the Yamaha info panel displays PCM (when the A2 is set to PCM but is decoding Dolby TrueHD and outputing PCM) the receiver is outputing Dolby TrueHD? I will report back this evening. Thanks for your reply.

The HDDVD copy of Superman was the combo disc. I did have 1 audio/video dropout at the beginning of the Star Trek XI movie. As I have said in the past, if there is an A/V dropout it occurs within the first 3 to 8 minutes of the movie. The only exception was Gladiator which had...

Well considering that you can get the HD DVD player for that cheap and most HD DVD movie titles only cost about $5.00 each it is a good start for the titles released already, but sooner or later you will want to add BD for the newer releases and future releases. Also consider you will likely want to buy a back up HD DVD player IF you buy a lot of titles on HD DVD so they can still be played down...

Hard to know if you are serious or not, but if you want any new movies then you should get a blu-ray player. I'm not even sure how easy it would be for you to even find HD DVD movies now.

Is the A2 capable of playing DTHD via my Yamaha RXV765?
I read the posts on the A35 but the A2 doesn't have same audio menu options.
One post said: "To playback HBR (Dolby TrueHD, DD+, DTS-HD XX, etc.) over HDMI 1.3, set "Digital Out HDMI" to "auto", set "Direct Digital Audio" to "on."
However in the same thread it later said: "Set digital output via HDMI to BITSTREAM not AUTO ...

Trust me. I watched this movie and you are better off.
But if you really want to watch it, you will likely need to upgrade the firmware on it. Check the firmware thread sticky for links to get the firmware and instructions for how to do it. Just remember you MUST remove any disc for the player before doing it if using the Ethernet connection. Otherwise it probably will brick the player and ...

You can turn off onscreen display to get rid of the message, the selection is available in the player menu. I don't think there is any other way to avoid the silly message. It doesn't mean anything if you aren't using HDMI for audio obviously, faulty firmware is my guess as to the reason the player displays the message. With Samsung, it is usually poorly developed firmware that is the cause ...
