Make sure the BD player is not turned on until the TV is on and changed to the correct input the BD player is connected to and THEN turn on the BD player. If that works then it was a handshake issue between the two devices. Possibly a firmware update to the BD player may resolve this conflict.

I don't see the ABT2010 being dumped, how to turn an Oppo BDP-83 into something less...? I think Oppo is targeting the consumer with a BD player that is simple and less sophisticated than the BDP-83, SACD and DVD-A will be gone. This eliminates many setup features, I believe there will be an HDMI output, optical and coaxial digital outputs with maybe a stereo output. I guess we will see if my prediction holds true, Merry Christmas...

I would say the PS3 is the best Home Media Machine on the market that does a very good job with bly-ray discs. The best BD player out there? Nah, I dont think so. Not anymore. But, if you game and/or use the PS3 for other things then by all means get one. They are great machines. But, I would NO longer recommend one strictly as a blu-ray player. The standalones are the way to go now for blu-ray playback, IMO. A few years back, the PS3 was the...

I decided that it would just be easier to take it bake and get the Sony BDP-S560 since it has wireless built in already. It cost a little more but it was worth it.

You can use component cables to get HD with BD movies, but you will only get 480p with SD DVDs using component. Another thing is that over the next year or two they may start using the ICT flagging where as they will not allow HD content over component on newer releases. So far no studios are limiting HD BD titles with component, but they day may come soon. Your only recourse is to replace the ...

Just based on what you've described, I think the snow you're seeing is actually due to the HDMI handshake between the S360 and your TV. I have a Panasonic TV and an Onkyo AVR, and I sometimes get snow while everything is coming on (with the same BD player too). But I get it sometimes with each piece of equipment (Xbox, PS3, DVR, S360)
As far as the volume, I have noticed that each piece of ...

Instead of setting it to 24p set it to 60p ( 2:3 pulldown) and see if that corrects your problem.

Too bad they don't go into detail about which players they tested this one against which, IMO, makes the CNET'S claim a bit misleading

I was just reading on another forum, of people in the same boat. The last couple of posts go to say; U 73 error on my Panny DMP-BD35 connected to my Panny TX-37lzd85.
I found it hard to believe that this perfect match would give me
an u73 error. It really did. I called Panny support and they said i had to
bring in the player, that u73 error ment that there was something very wrong.

Nope. Sometimes some discs just don't play. It could be something inherent in all of the IB discs, or with just YOUR disc. Then again, it could be your disc player. Trial and error is usually the only method to find out for sure.

i guess. i have one but honestly i dont care for the blu-ray. ive watched a few blu-ray movies on my ps3 to my samsung 37" lcdtv and i dont see much difference form watching standard dvd through my toshiba hd player with upscaling. the only thing i notice is the color is a little to rich. i also compared a few hddvds to standard dvds on the toshiba and the difference was hardly noticed, except ...

I would look at the Panny BD60 or the Sony BDP360.
Avoid Samsung like the plague IMO, since they have had major issues and they are the worst with providing firmware updates so you can play some of the new release BD titles. Trust me. If you do anything else but buy a Samsung BD player you will be better off.

1. As long as you get a compalete picture then you should be fine with the included cable.
2. There is no 96Hz output on ANY BD player nor is there a display that can accept a 96Hz signal. You output 24Hz (Fps) from the BD player and the display turns it into 96Hz internally.
You are going to have a complete kick ass BD movie playing system there. Enjoy!

Analog audio outs and SACD/DVD-A? That's about the only thing I could think of that would be able to go and still be something that sets itself apart as a premier player. Up to now, the Oppo is (I've thought) considered superior to other players due to its DVD upscaling and audio options. Without the superior DVD upscaling, it's not really anything special is it?

Apparently setting the remote volume to 100% should take care of this according to Oppo... I'll have to try it when I get home.
Unfortunately, it appears that all outputs are active and you cannot set specific outputs on the device... this would be extremely helpful as some people have strange setups (like me) where they might want 2 channel analog on for certain media (audio CDs, etc.) or ...

Get the HDMI. Most movie DVDs will not be upconverted via component.
You don't have to spend much. Here's one of the many fine sponsors here at HDF:
