On the subject of sponsors - you can also get them to sponsor "Choice" trophies. They can come choose the car which gets their trophy, or someone on the meet committee can choose a car for them. You can charge them a small fee ($10 to $25), or ask them to donate goods or services in lieu of payment. The goods and services can then be used as door prizes, or given with the trophy. Hope I can help just a little here.
First of all, participants come for trophies. Top 5, 10, 20 or whatever you think and people's choice voting will be much easier on the organizers.
Look for sponsors for charitable events to offset your costs for trophies, signs, etc.

Yesterday we had a distinguished guest sign up. Ben Jones of Ecomodder will be bringing his highly modified [for fuel mileage] 1991 Honda CRX from Hanover, NH.

It's getting pretty obvious that we will need to cap entries to 70 drivers and go for a quality show over a quantity one. Giving everyone plenty of track time has always been our goal so we will set the cap to 70.
We're at 54 drivers right now. So if you're thinking about it, better speak up.
