You can check with the Nebraska
motor vehicle dept - their web site has an address where you can send off for a title search. When I did it on a car I bought there it just costed a dollar, though they of course didn't find anything on my car, salvaged in NEB around 1964. (I bought it in 80 or 81 as a parts car, considering rebuilding it now.)

there are several title companies who will sell you the necessary paperwork to register your car in CA. Probably ITS Titles in Vegas would be
most familiar with what is needed in CA. its-titles.com
