I do not have any service information that goes that far back, but my book for 1940 indicates that the VIN is stamped into the right door pillar on that year Plymouth. Perhaps you have a serial number located in a similar place? I am not familiar with the use of removable paper tags for serial numbers on cars even from that long ago.
