The noise could be from flat spots on the tires? Have you inspected them all the way around. I drove for several years. Only used the clutch for starting or stopping. I never could shift the truck with a clutch and had driven several trucks. JJ

Thanks for the reply. The engine turns over as it should with a 1 5/16" socket and 3/4" ratchet. I'm thinking it must be electrical. Also, I just learned today, that there are multiple starters used for these trucks. The most popular being a Delco 40MT and a Delco 50MT. The 50MT has a little more torque and I'm leaning in that direction now.

You either have a partially seized engine there or some electrical resistance.I wouldn't pop the clutch on this, something might just break. I'd get it checked out.

Omaha standard will sell to you direct. personally i have given up on the metal steak body racks. They get beat up and start looking like azz in no time flat.
wood is cheep and easy to replace when the time needs to be. Seen a new truck that had composite decking used for the steak slats that was nice. Probably last for a long time.

an n700 is not an f 700, used to own one and was the same color. Mine had a perkins diesel. That truck would turn on a dime and give you eight cents change. I traded it in on a louisville and the ford dealer kept it for many years for a yard/shag tractor.

I worked for a paving company that had a fleet of Macks. Most were the 237 but one they got from down south had the 300 in it. That truck was a beast, but it was broke a lot too. Good luck with the repair.

Drove a new GMC 366/4bbl/dual exhaust/5-speed 26' box truck back in the late 70's.
Was fun-would easily 'take' a few cars off a light. On e-way no problem getting up to 70 then it would back down to 65 (governor). Most of the time it was lightly loaded. Ran way stronger than similar 90's Ford 370/2bbl/5-speed.

Like anything else it's debateable.
I think the 3 stage is better for strength and durability.
The scissor lifts have too many components that can result in failure. If get yourself in a situation where you are un-level and are loaded heavy to the front I have seen them twist and either a pin popping or sub frame twisting. Not saying a 3 stage cylinder won't give out either but with the ...

Can't help you with the sound, is it possibly just tire noise. Do you have traction type tires? And where is the noise coming from, front, back, etc?
As for shifting no matter which way you do it you have to get road speed, engine rpms synchronized. So that means when downshifting tapping on the accelerator to get engine rpms up.
The only times I use the clutch is when starting, ...

I worked for a place that had welded the pumpkin to the housing, because it was vibrating the bolts out. The driveline between the diffs had about a 1" wobble It was still on the road a year later.

So, you decided not to go with the international. Are you going to use a trailer also? Those trucks look nice I might get one in about a year to replace my f-450.
I have been very busy but I will get you those pictures of the hook setup in the next few days.
Thanks

Head gasket leak on a 5.9 Cummins.
Not sure where I should put this question.I have a customer with a 99 F800 Ford truck that has a 5.9 Cummins in it. Just behind the alternator there is a small water leak at the block/head. No water in the oil or oil in the water just an external leak. Are there any block seals that could be added ...
