New Caterpillar D7E - Opinions?...
Published (2009-12-24 18:30:00)
I saw one of these monsters about a month ago but didn't get to run it. As a mechanic there were some things I liked and some I hated. I liked the jack over cab and the serviceability of the machine. I'm kind of ambivalent about the electric drive attachments. Water pumps and air conditioning take a certain amount of horsepower to run them and don't care how that power is supplied. Belts are far cheaper and easier to fix. Wires...

Love the HD-9 pannycj ! Adding limb risers will help allot around trees.I dont see a problem installing the blade face plate in two pieces.Your pictures bring back memorys as my first dozer was a 1955 Allis-Chalmers HD-16 ac.It was a clutch tractor with a gear tranny, but it also had a torque converter between the clutch & tranny that used diesel fuel insted of hydraulic oil to drive it.It worked great, the fuel tank would get warm as...

Now that is very interesting, Komatsu 150. I may very well try the flush method and see what I get. Certainly have nothing to lose by it. Thanks for your experience and reply!

Welcome to the forum davbell 22602.Never been around a IH 340 dozer.Looks like a good project.Should be a drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan.Looks like it uses a cartrage type oil filter like my TD 15 & 25.Drain the old oil out in a bucket to get an idea of the amount needed. As for the winch,I dont think IH made one.We have a "Carco" brand winch on the td15 dozer. No manual release on my ...

I had an ol buddy that used to do it years ago as req'd and they'd use flat sheet and form it as they installed, I never saw him do it so I can't say if they clamped/ heated/comealongs/wedges or all but it didn't sound like a big deal, having a dirt blade will be easier due to less curvature than a bullgrader. I think they were using 1/2" plate for D6's, you might want AR400 for abrasion ...

D5 motor change procedure
I'm looking at a about 1970 to 73 D5 with the head off, unprotected cylinders. It is owned by a wrecker who also has another motor. If anyone has changed one of these; How tough is it? Is there any stupid mistakes I can avoid? Does the t.c. come out with the motor does it have to be barred over to remove? ...

Hi Dan the "cold start" throttle position changes the injection timing for an easier start. I think a block heater would be the best bet for really cold weather. Randy

It happens on all the newer machines. Make sure the dirt is cleared out of the seals all around the door. Lube the latch up with graphite and that should help a bunch.
Good Luck!

Was interested to read efficiency data and compareing amount of m/3 moved etc.
No mention I note on how far this Quantity was moved .I0 mtrs 100 Mtrs ???????
Not wanting to knock the machine, all the same, could well be a goodie.
I also wonder how the price compares, with standard tractor ,Any mention of this ???

i'm sure if you post what machine you're talking about, someone will be able to help you with the specs that show the percentage of wear for it.

Sorry guys I couldn't help it. Can't have a discussion about a dozer without this coming up so I just beat everyone to the punch.

Hi Matt,
Firstly, you'll find that you will need to be in contact with people all over the world,if you need info on your machine.I know of owners in Europe,Australia,UK, & USA.There are not many CT5 & CD5 in operation.
The S4E engine is similar to that used in the Mitsubishi BD2G crawlers, although I'm unsure if it's exactly the same.
As for parts...your Hitachi dealer will source them for ...
