I'm not sure how soon after your surgery you should test your levels but if you're not making enough T4, and hence T3 you should show a decrease in these levels within a few weeks. T3 tends to drop off first so make sure you test free T3 and free T4 levels. Are there any practitioners in your area who prescribe natural thyroid hormones? They will be the most open to using T3, either with desiccated thyroid or adding Cytomel to T4. If...

Is generic cytomel the same as reg?

It's possible that your body wouldn't know the difference between generic and the genuine brand. While generic hormones frequently do cause trouble, they don't in every case. If price is a major concern, it wouldn't hurt to give the generic a try for a month and see where you are at the end of the trial.

Follicular lesion FNA

That's interesting, does the endo think the hyperactivity increases the likelihood of cancer? I was not hyper, but when I had scans prior to my nodule removal for cancer, I had a super high uptake, so I'm curious what your doctor meant. In terms of the follicular cells, my mother in law had hashis all her life and had inconclusive/follicular cells in her fna, I don't think her nodule size was as large, but hers turned out to be...

Low T4 does NOT cause symptoms?
Published (2009-11-19 19:10:00)
I've been reading posts that users have been sending me saying that low T4 does not cause any symptoms. Why is it necessary to have free T4 in the upper part of the normal range? Can we just treat with T3 only? Thanks. David

It probably means you're a bit on the hypothyroid side. If you have symptoms you need further testing - FT4 plus TPO and Tg antibodies at least

Yes, I like my ND quite a lot. She was pretty fuzzy on the relationship between ferritin and thyroid, so this has been the one issue about which I have been looking for some outside information. Thanks for the tip on the magnesium. I have some in my cabinet that I've been neglecting; I'll dig it out. Unfortunately, my new thyroid meds are in caplet form, so I can't take them sublingually. But, I take my thyroid first thing in...

I had to do that a couple of weeks ago. I haven't started the compounded med yet; still till have a couple of days left of Nature-throid before starting the new stuff. My fingers are firmly crossed that NT will be available before my next refill. It cost me $23 for 90 days. The compound costs $30 for 30 days.
So, I can't answer your question directly, but I have every expectation there ...

Hypothyroidism seriously affects all reproductive functions so your menstrual problems and miscarriages are very likely as a result of this.
Endos can be difficult for many of us, we find most to be rigid and stuck in a TSH-only mentality. Most of us have had better luck finding a good general practitioner or DO or alternative doc to treat us.
Our goal with treatment is to raise our ...

Yes there is a difference in the generic Cytomel. It often contains cellulose fillers and this can blunt of diminish the effects of the T3. Good idea to stick with the branded.

The past few days it has been constipation. Miserable with back and leg pain to go with it. I hate it. Also joint and muscle pain and cold feet and nose. The nose thing is sort of strange.

See if the doc will order some labs for you, specifically, free T3, free T4, vitamin D, B12 and ferritin. You need to monitor your ferritin levels to get them up between 70-90 if you are low in iron.

I don't know about the cortisol (you're right, one draw isn't going to tell much-- what were the ranges with that result?) but with that TSH you are pretty definitely hypothyroid and need more testing and treatment. If your doc won't test your free T3 and free T4 with that over-range TSH I'd threaten malpractice (and while you're at it, get the antibodies tested for Hashimoto's: TPO and TG). ...

snopea, do you know if they will give you a local anesthetic? My biopsy would have been painful without anesthetic, but others on here have said it hurt less than a bee sting, even without numbing. With a growth that size, I would suggest you get a biopsy done. It is MUCH better to know for sure that it's not cancer, before the growth gets larger or you get even more growths. I had an ...

I know a woman who began taking Synthroid when she was 16. She's a 50-something grandmother now and doing perfectly fine. Most of the hypothyroid people I know take Synthroid. They're fine, too.
Hypothyroid is hypothyroid whether it's due to Hashimoto's disease, radiation, or thyroidectomy, and the treatment is the same for hypoT regardless of the cause. Just because some people don't ...

Too bad they did that outdated T3 uptake instead of a free T3 but your FT4 is scraping bottom and you are yet another person going hypo on Armour. The TSH is not a relilable indicator of your hypo status, hence your symptoms despite that "normal" TSH.
See about switching over to Nature-throid or Erfa from Canada (easy to order online with a doctor's prescription). Armour has gone into the ...

I've got many of the signs and symptoms of RA but never tested postitive for the antibodies. My rheumatologist thinks I may have an early but still seronegative RA due to the presence of synovitis in my MCP joints. My mother has RA and is in very bad shape with it now.
I also have not tested positive for any of the thyroid antibodies so, while I've got many hallmarks of several ...
