Are you on anti-depressants as well? When you find out you will probably be in pain for the rest of your life it can change your whole way if thinking about life. Surgery can be either good or bad with the end result, you think it will help and when it doesn't it is also depressing. I know all this too well. I am just now coming to terms with my pain and trying to adapt to the life with it. It does take a while and there is almost a...

Thank you both very much for the information! I know, I couldn't believe that was the medication route they took with him either being he is never on any medications normally. However, they did say they think he metabolizes a lot quicker than most people and that is why the oral pain meds were only working for like 2 hours at a time. I just checked in with him and he stated he feels the patch is wearing off because he continues to feel...

Wow, I can't believe he did this without discussing this with you first. Can you get in touch with him and ask him to back to your patches? Melissa

I agree with SpineAZ. Pain Management is the way to go and long-acting medications can make all the difference. I would definitely find out about getting a pain management referral. It may take a while to see someone, so your PCP will need to handle your pain management in the interim, but for me being on a long-acting medication has made all the difference. I get out of bed and actually move well and feel good (as opposed to the pain I used...

Hopefully your tooth is feeling better by now. There are many people in chronic pain management who take these pills on a long term >5 year basis and have no problems. Who knows if any will eventually have a problem, but certainly if you are healthy and following doctors orders, then it is most likely everything is fine. Just make sure to only take what is prescribed, do not add extra tylenol to your day, and be careful sometimes - it...

Hi Shar, sorry to hear of your ongoing pain. Have you asked your surgeon for a recommendation on a PM specialist? That's how I found my PM.

Card, I feel for you, honestly. You are absolutely right, you do need to have a talk with your primary about what happened and why . You also need to have another discussion with that person you suspect is taking some of your medication. Being timid with anyone is not going to help you solve both of the current issues. The person that is taking your meds, be it family member or friend, needs to be told in no uncertain terms that you will not...

Card , oh man...I feel for you. I have to say, I might've tried the same thing, so don't beat yourself up. The only reason I couldn't try it is that my pain med ( oxycodone) isn't refillable. But believe me, I ultimately took as many as they gave me.
I don't know if your ortho will contact your PCP. Some others here on the board may know for sure. I doubt you'd be in legal trouble, ...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this transition isn't even close. I'm afraid you will go into WD. 60mg of oral morphine per day is roughly equal to a 20mcg patch, which there is none. The 25mcg patch is roughly equal to 75mg of daily oral morphine. The 50mcg patch is roughly equal to 150mg of oral morphine per day, or 75 every 12 hours.
What oral morphine did he put you on? ...

Your husband is correct, even if he has withdrawl at worst he will have a few days of slight discomfort. It should not be severe given the short time he's been on the meds.
In my opnion I would say at worst he may feel a slight discomfort and probably won't be able to distinguish between it as being withdrawl or just end of his infection and sickness going away on the road to hopefully a ...

Great to see your own thread George!
The main issue with " false negatives" is due to the test having a threshold. Thresholds are used to prevent falsely accusing people of taking something when they haven't. Thresholds are an amt that needs to be present in order for the test to be "positive."
The reason there are thresholds is because the same test is used by the labs in your area for ...

Hi Meghan, I took neurontin for a month and it didn't do much for my pain. I don't know about how it might do for restless legs. I only took the stuff (300 mg)at night. I tried taking it during the day and I was completely goofy and had trouble staying awake. I had the same problem with Lyrica as well. My wife has restless legs and she takes Mirapex. It works well for her.

Hey Monkey, Who says you can't have a 24 -7 pain pump, If a doc doesn't do pump management he isn't going to offer it. I've had my medtronics pump for 6 years now and although it doesn't relieve all pain, 50 % is enough to allow me to return to work part time and excercise 5 days a week. If things are bad enough to talk about a spinal cord stim why not call medtronics and find out who in your ...

New, are those doctors (UMass, etc.) specialists in pain management? I didn't quite understand your post -- your neurologist stresses you need pain management, but I didn't understand whether you've actually been to a pain medicine specialist. Or, why can't your PCP or neurologist refer you to a specialist who can help you?
