hello Linda, I had thr on 11/11/09. It is day 16 since my surgery. I am now walking about using only a cane. I found using the walker and crutches didn't bother my hands, but my upper arm. Using the cane is much easier because I can use my whole arm to assist in moving about by placing the cane handle close to my side. Best of luck with your surgery.

the fear of dislocation gradually diminishes and one day you'll wake up and your new hip won't be the first thing you think about i'm not a dancer but i am a fell walker and hiker. you'll get back into it again i'm sure, just be patient and let it all heal at it's own speed sue

Haven't been to see him for two months - the last time I went he said see you in 5 years! He also told me it takes up to 2 years to fully heal, and that some continuing pain is normal. I have a great ROM and flexion so he is very pleased with me. I have taken it very easy today and am changing to our Summer duvet tonight, have my room all set up ready for a early and relaxing lead into bed time and am hoping that will help me get some...

I never thought of the metal in the knee and cold air! I wonder if my non-operative knee will feel different when I'm out in the cold --- as compared with the 'metal knee'.

Its funny you say that. I felt cold for the first month at least after my knee replacement. I thought it was just me. Must have to do with the surgery, loss of blood, or just general recovery. I am six weeks out and am not feeling that as much now, just once in awhile. I have also heard that the metal in the knee does feel cold in the winter. Haven't felt that yet.

I found over our winter that the cold got to my new knee. I went to the snow and really felt it badly. I was told it is to do with the metal :P Thankfully we are coming into summer here and I am much more comfortable

Hi Norine, I think you are really doing well as its only 5 weeks post op. I had mine done the day after you and am still struggling with bending. I'm lucky if mine goes to 75 although I was getting 90 before I left hospital. I think I had walked with a stiff leg for so long its like learning to walk again but I must persevere. You will be fine .

Hi Floating Island...I had bi-laterals done 10 years ago and I agree with everything you posted. And the pain meds...I did Dilaudid as well and no, 4mgs doesn't do it but trying to get them to approve more than that is impossible(idiots....let them try this surgery!). I couldn't take ibuprofen or naproxen as I was on Coumadin for 12 weeks to thin my blood and prevent clots and those drugs ...

Hello, Three weeks ago, I had a media plica excision. In addition, I have an extensive synovectomy. Earlier this same year, I had a torn meniscus and synovium issue fixed. Since my first surgery, I was experiencing a lot of pain, snapping and catching in my knee. My surgeon absolutely would not believe he did not fix my knee, but i knew something was terribly wrong. I was sent to a ...

Hi Lionel Very complicated question. I'd usually recommend hip resurfacing if you wanted to maintain activity levels, but this can be contraindicated for people over 65. If a specialist hip resurfacing surgeon does not believe you a candidate for resurfacing, then large ball metal on metal THR would be a good alternative. The large ball minimises the rsik of dislocation and thus enables a ...

Exit, I am still tired after 8 months! I am slowly getting more energy and better sleep is happening depending on how my leg/knee is at the end of the day. Our bodies have been to hell and back, and unlike other surgeries we haven't had the luxury of being able to lie and rest and recuperate - we were up on our new knees the same day! It took me 4 months before I felt up to working part time and ...

Hi Lucy, I am sorry your in pain but I sure know how you feel. I had a THR last summer and it was wonderful to have no pain after not even from the surgery. Gosh why did I wait so long. I need to have my other hip done also now but not in near as much pain as the other one. I had pain in my butt like your talking about, I had pain in my knees I was afraid my knees were going but it was due to...
