eGFR and stages??

1.3 isn't entirely normal. It depends on your lab. I know that my home lab considers anything above 1.0 to be abnormal. The eGFR is still in the "normal" range as anything above 60 is ok. I wouldn't worry too much about the "stages" because they don't really mean anything in practical terms as far as how you feel. He is still in the very early stages. The process goes through 4 (or maybe 5)...

Hi Pauline, Yes my mom went yesterday for her treatment but she only did 2hrs. She felt very bad afterwards. Did your mother get irritated at you when you asked her questions about if she been eating and drinking right. I know she doesn't eat right. I can't tell her what to do, I try to sometimes but only cause I want her here with us. I know that knowbody understands dialysis unless there the one doing it or is the love one. I have...

Well, I was pissed! I called my neph's office to report these findings, and to question this. It turns out I was tested a year ago for only TSH, and my finding were within normal range. Well, as of today, they are NOT close to normal range, in fact shockingly low. This means that in the last year I have plummeted to the point I am now. Could this extreme fatigued cause my back to go out? Tomorrow I will see a back specialist, and find...

WRITELEFT : I'm absolutely shocked that not one of your docs (ESPECIALLY your nephrologist), never thought of testing your thyroid for such a long period of time, especially, as you point out yourself, CKD and Hypothyroid are often diagnosed together. If I were in your shoes I'd be really pissed off at my docs - especially the neph. I'd even go so far as switching to another neph, under these circumstances. No wonder so few of...

travel with dialysis
Published (2009-11-28 22:44:00)
I am a 46 yo male in minnesota (straight) that used to love to travel. Dialysis has made this difficult. I would like to meet someone like me that would like to arrange a trip to florida to spend some time on the beach and maybe go fishing etc. Would like to drive and spend some time getting there, maybe stop at different points and see the country on the way. Need a little time with someone that understands difficulties with this disease ....

Good afternoon, I had my left kidney removed laparoscopically on Oct 30th and I am doing quite well. I was able to walk the following day and sent home on November 1st. If, I understand correctly, your dad is having his kidney removed through open surgery? If so, I believe his recovery time is a little bit longer. I was on clear liquids for a day and slowly started eating regular foods. The pillows are a great idea! I could not have made it...

i am really trying to understand just how you ended up with the autosomal dominant AND having only one child with the recessive form(just how did they actually defferintiate the two forms?)? did they have any real explanation for you on this? we have the autosomal dominant in our little family. i was kind of under the impression based upon research i did many years ago(so my brain could be remembering things a bit wrong here too) that when a...

I don't have pkd, but I had diabetic nephropathy. The problem with trying to get an estimate of "how long" is that it is simply a guess. Everyone is different. PKD, as with many other kidney diseases varies a great deal from person rto person. You could have a decade or more before any intervention is necessary. In the meantime it is important to keep track of things. You must watch your blood ...

A lipoma is a fatty tumor. - Completely harmless, as I understand it. as it's just a mass filled with fat. (not abnormal cells.) Angio, I believe, has to do with blood vessels. So I think it is a fatty tumor growing out of or surrounded by blood vessels.
I know it is scary, when unsure what your dealing with or treatment, but try not to worry, until you find out more from your Dr...

My husband was the same way after treatment. What made it worse for him was that he was a double amputee. He had to use a sliding board and that was very hard for him because he was so wiped out after treatment.I was told that the reason it was so hard on him was because they had to take so much fluid off of him. They said that he was taking in more fluid than he was supposed to.So we would limit ...

I feel for you sweetie. I've been there. How is your hemoglobin? Sometimes if it is low or borderline, getting it up with aranesp or epo can make a world of difference. It is a tough adjustment realizing that you can't do as much as you once could. Depression too is a common side effect. You have a lot of crap floating around ...

Is he on dialysis now? Have they said he will be on dialysis after the kidney removal? This would probably only occur if there is a problem with the remaining kidney. My cousin gave me a kidney and did not have to do dialysis at all. The person losing (or giving) a kidney is typically very tired for a while because it takes some time for the remaining kidney to pick up the slack. There are some ...

It depends on what her actual kidney function is. If she has any left, she may not build up too much fluid in the meantime. If she does not produce much urine there is a danger that the fluid build up can interfere with the heart and lung function. The same goes for potassium. Depending on what she is eating, her potassium level may rise to a dangerous level and stop her heart.
It is very ...
