Watch hat you eat. That is your body and you need to manage it better. You are what you eat, so the saying goes. Seriously, you wouldn't be posting if you weren't concered so take charge of your body by what you put into it. (It has to last you the rest of your life, so treat it good)

Try taking at least 100mg a day of CoQ10. Statins are known to decrease our supply CoQ10. This depletion leads to sore muscles and body aches. Fish Oil will also help with the joint aches.

Perhaps there was an error in the test and maybe another test might be worth considering to verify? Even a crude home cholesterol (total, or total and HDL) test kit as found in pharmacies might at least tell you if you are sky high or not if you are unable to get a full blood work done.

I would love to get husband off statins, BUT he is already thin (only weighs 150), exercising 5 days a week for 20 minutes, plus working a job where he walks, and eating not much fat at all --has NOT helped his numbers, without meds -his Tri' are about 200, his # about 245, his LDL about 190 , his HDL about 38 with no statins. That makes his Ratio about 6 . With 10mg a day of simivestan and the same lifestyle , his numbers seem to be...

Thanks for getting back to me. I exercise (weights, cardio) for app 45 min 4-5 days a week. I don't have fat around my abdomen--I'm over 6 feet and weigh 160. My diet has been about the same, fairly healthy, I avoid trans fats, have fish 2x week, eat a couple vegetables each day (usually green). I don't eat many carbs. Yeah, I do have "bad" foods once in a while but not on a weekly basis. I know dietary fat can...

Sonatta, I smoke too, and I currently have high cholesterol also. I am trying to reduce my cholesterol levels by excercizing, taking an omega 3 fish oil supplement and watching my diet. You should talk to a doctor about what would be best. Cutting down smoking would greatly reduce your cholesterol because it is proven that smoking increases cholesterol levels. I am trying to cut down on my smoking and it is very difficult, because I lead a...

For lowering LDL, do your best to avoid eating foods with trans-fats from hydrogenated oils (check labels on processed foods, margarine, shortening, etc.; beware that foods fried in restaurants may be fried in hydrogenated oil). Trans-fats from hydrogenated oils raise LDL and lower HDL.
Saturated fats, common in fat from red meat and dairy products, and coconut and palm oil, tend to raise ...

What type of carb foods do you eat now? You may want to switch them to those higher in fiber, like bran and beans, if you need to keep the fiber intake up and the non-fiber carbs down.
Also, loss of excess body fat should help the blood cholesterol levels. Be sure to exercise to maintain muscle under calorie deficit conditions (losing weight is not healthy if you lose mostly muscle and ...

Benecol spread though expensive is great at lowering cholesterol. I don't know about the chews, but the spread is proven to lower cholesterol in many research studies. My doctor (cardiologist) recommended it to me a few years ago. The results for both LDL and HDL were clearly visible. I am now trying Smart Balance (plant sterols) and the flavor is better than the Benecol. I will know more after ...

Any dietary differences between 6 years ago and now? If your consumption of LDL increasing foods (typically trans-fats and saturated fat; dietary cholesterol for some people) is higher now than then, perhaps you may be unusually sensitive to that.
Also, it is possible to have too much body fat even if you are not overweight, particularly if you do not exercise much. Having high body fat ...

Hi Tenacious,
From my readings, I believe that the intake of COq10 is not statin dose related. As almost everyone acts differently to drugs, it would be wise to take as below.
The human body starts to produce less CoQ10 in one's thirties. So if you are on statins/RYR in your 30s' - 40s' you need at least 100mg, going to 400mg a day when in one's 70+. Best to take it even if you are not on ...

For low HDL, increasing exercise is generally the best natural way to raise it. Also, avoid trans-fats from hydrogenated oil in margarine, shortening, etc..
The US CDC's minimum guidelines for exercise for adults are 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity per week, plus muscle strengthening activities (e.g. weight training or body weight ...

High cholesterol is usually genetics if he is only 34 and not over weight, I am the same; high cholesterol and heart disease on both sides, I am only 23 in good shape and have high cholesterol. One thing I have noticed is eating oatmeal (not fully loaded with sugar) or cheerios in the morning every morning really does lower it. He just needs to eat better and keep the junk food (chips, fast food,...
