Hurting more after Laminectomy -...

Yes, I went through the same EXACT thing about 4 years ago. Request a discogram immediately and don't take no for an answer. Unfortunately for me I let it go too far (25 months) before they finally agreed to do one. When they did it they found the problem immediately. The disc that was previously "fixed" had too large a herniation and the rest of the disc wasn't strong enough to support my spine. I had a fusion with...

I have talked to quite a few surgeons and I have been asked several times if my bladder control has been affected. Mine hasn't, but it must be a symptom if they all ask. As much as I hate ice, it might be worth a try. Just put the heat pad on your chest to keep you warm. Hang in there!

Yes, leaking urine is not normal, ever, even after having children. Ask any urologist. Aging is also not a reason for leaking or not being able to get to the bathroom on time. Are you having increasing numbness along with the pain? Are you having trouble holding your bowels as well? I would suggest that you look up Cauda Equina Syndrome. It is directly related to compression of the spinal nerves in the lumbar area. Those nerves look like a...

Wow, thank you so much for all the info on what to exect! I appriciate it. I am a little scared though because it is such a major surgery. I had simmilar recovery after my bilateral adrenalectomy and wasnt able to move much or dress myself. The tool would have been nice to know about! The hospital never even mentioned there was such a thing. Fortunatly I had my husband to help and my home health care nurse. My children are 15, 13, 12, 11, 9,...

Amy...I'm getting a DLIF, which I think is similar to an XLIF, just different equipment. Can you have a DLIF AND a TDR? I'm confused. I see my surgeon on Monday so I'll ask them. During a DLIF they do put something in place of the disc then do a fusion. That may be a TDR?

Hi Betty, I too have a an unstable pelvis and it causes havoc on the rest of your lower body if left untreated. I have gone to PT years ago for this and it did help. But I also have fibro in the lower pelvic wall that is very, very painful w/intercourse. I once had a steroid shot via vagina and I almost when through the roof! Never again on that because it did nothing. We were at last resorts by then. So see if PT will help. It won't hurt...

I had injections to both sides of SI and it was very sore for 3 days but is starting to settle down now. The needle goes in about 85mm but that said it seems to be worth it. The pain in my waist down through my bottom and down past my knee's is indeed better than it was. I have to do what I can to get through the next 12 months. I wouldn't mind getting the nerve rots at L5 done as well some time ...

Michael, I am so sorry things have not turned out the better for you!!
When they did the MRI, did they use contrast? Also have they done a discogram to validate that the level they are operating on is truly your pain generator?

I hope you get some feedback, as I am going to have a 2 level fusion too. L4-S1.
What are your symptoms, and biggest problems. Have you taken any more consevative approaches first. Like lumbar injections, manipulation,P/T, traction, etc. ?

You can apply for Social Security Disability Benefits online if you like, or go to your nearest Social Security office and get the paperwork there and complete it. It is best if you have copies of your medical records so that you don't have to wait for a response to SSD from the doctors. There are many items that you will need, so it is best to have that information gathered ahead of time before...

Hi Busymom, and welcome to the back board!
How old are your kids? Most of us had a 5 pound lifting restriction for a couple of months. If you don't have to lift them, you'll probably want some help for the first couple of weeks, but after that, you'll be able to do most of what they need, as long as you're careful. You won't be allowed to bend, lift, or twist, and you'll need to rest a ...

Good luck with your surgery. I am sorry you have been through so much for nothing. My neurologist said eventually I will also need the SI joint fusion but not right now. I also have numerous other problems.

I think you need an MRI. It shows much more than an x-ray.

With Backpain... most people never are at 100%.
There are times when you can be close to 99%.... but even that is considered lucky. After the recovery period, there will be great days.. 3 yrs after my 3 level fusion i still have bad days. I have back pain everyday. but i have not stopped living my life. Just know how to pace yourself and you should be able to play golf again. ...

I wish I had the answers for you as I am beginning the same journey. Just figuring out if a SCS will work. From what my PM guy said the SCS can work for lumbar - they just don't know until they do the trial run.
All my research shows no actual laminectomy is done. The first test leads are put in during a minor surgery (often done under local with IV sedation). Then if the SCS ...
