It seems that there are alot of side effects from SSRIs versus the tricyclic anti-dep. meds. I am currently on Lexapro and have experienced all the nasty side-effects of this med - loss of appetite, nausea, tiredness, spacy and increased anxiety so have to take xanax still. However, in 1991 when my anxiety first started, they put me on Pamelor/Nortriptyline which worked wonders for me. It gave ...

Hi, I was put on 2 x .5mg daily of Lorazepam because I experienced awful anxiety from a different medication (Metoprolol). Last week I was weaned off the Metoprolol and now I don't feel I need the Lorazepam anymore. Since I've only been on Lorazepam for about 11 days is it ok to stop it cold turkey or should I wean myself off this. If so, what is a suggested weaning program? Thank you!...

Has anyone tried St Johns wort as a substitute to prescription meds? How effective is it? What other natural remedies are effective for anxiety/depression? Thanks

Hi Can anxiety be non-stop?. Sort of like a car engine that is constantly running?. I had a phobia-type scare the other day that has blossomed into an almost full-blown panicky feeling that won't let up. In addition to the adrenalin surges, my throat feels tight and like it has a lump in it and then there's the fear and feeling like I can't get on with life and do anything because I'm...

I have so much anxiety that I don't know how to give myself a break. The anxiety is worst in the mornings. I have a hard time getting up from bed because everything feels bleak and empty. I can barely think because of the anxiety. My anxiety has been worse lately than in a long time. I have two kids and bringing them to school and just having to be on the campus and see the other parents ...

Hi all, I think I can sum up my anxiety by saying it is 'having lost all confidence in my own abilities to deal with the every day things in life' I feel as if I have regressed back to childhood where I dont have confidence to make decisions about even small, unimportant things.Like a child, I'm afraid to go shopping to town on my own, to the cinema etc. and when it comes to my kids I'...

I see this type of post all the time: "I just started (lexapro/zoloft/prozac, etc.) a few days ago and I feel horrible! Should I stop?" Tons of people on this board can back this up. Yes, the first 10- 14 days of taking an SSRI will make you feel WORSE. Your anxiety will be spiked. You will feel physically ill. It's horrible. This type of reaction is totally, 100%, absolutely ...

I would like to know how many people feel that they need to take xanax along with Lexapro and if this is safe? I have been on Lexapro for a month now and still feel anxious and the need to take a Xanax however, feel that the xanax doesn't seem to be working as effectively as it had been. Any suggestions? Frustrated.

Hello everyone. This is my first time actually posting. My problem has become more than I can handle by myself and am looking for help and reassurance from people with the same problem. I am not afraid of death I am afraid of me myself dying. I can remember this starting when I was young waking up in the middle of the night and screaming at the top of my lungs that I did not want to die. This ...

Do any of you feel physically worse in the mornings? I find that the minute I wake up I have that panicky feeling that something is physically wrong because I feel so bad - naseaus, weak feeling and like I'm going to pass out - shakey and anxious - I've had my blood sugars checked which are normal. It's all I can do to get up and try to get ready for work. As the morning goes on (I will ...

I'm new to all of this but I'll try to briefly explain my story. This started for me the end of July. I am in the teaching profession and spent the summer off (without pay- because I'm a sub) so I had a lot of free time on my hands. I tried to keep myself busy but became bored and worried about not having a paycheck for roughly three months because I couldn't find only summer help. ...

About a month ago, I began having severe anxiety. My pdoc prescribed Xanax and Prevacid (for stomach pains). She also encouraged me to try Lexapro, but I resisted. I HATE taking these meds. Well, I haven't gotten much better - my stomach is still in nervous knots and I've lost 10 pounds. Haven't been able to go to work because I feel so bad. My doctor is now insisting that I try ...

Hi, I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder around 2003. I was having a specific anxiety related problem at the time (kind of a compulsive symptom) and was put on Lexapro. I'm not sure why, but I stopped taking the Lexapro on my own and seemed to handle my symptom fine since then. However, I have noticed that my anxiety has become greater of the recent year or so - much great - to...

I have been on and off this board for years with stress related anxiety and depression as it pertains my work. I have my ups and downs, and understand completely that the trigger is always work related (although as we all know, not the root cause). I have had this problem in various forms for 5+ years now...here's a quick snapshot of the highlights: 1) Had a major bout of depression and ...

I have been on Lexapro for 5 weeks now and still don't have much of an appetite. I take 5 ML and many people on this board have suggested that I take 10 ML, however, I am concerned about having even more loss of appetite with upping the dose. I have an apt. with my doc next week (it was the soonest I could get in!) and will discuss this with him. I just don't think that Lex is the right med for...
