TOTAL COLECTOMY PART 28

Jen, You are lucky to be alive let alone not have a bag, my G-- your surgeon must be gooood!. Glad to hear you won't be lifting a finger doing any house work this time. Sometimes anastomosis leaks just happen so you may not have triggered it so don't beat yourself up, but do take it easier this time. Walking is essential especially after a light meal, then plenty of rest. Sort of like a hospital routine, sleep, eat, walk, and back...

Jen (((HUGS))) so happy you are home, and now.. hopefully on the road to recovery! What a terrible ordeal! I can tell you don't like to come across as a baby.. and holding out till the last minute!! I think it is okay to be a baby when you don't feel right, but thank goodness it sure sounds like you have a doctor who is on the ball! I can only imagine how weak you are both mentally and physically. I'm so happy that you made it...

I think that sounds great!!! I hope you have fun and that it will fill the void you are feeling. You aren't different, maybe have something special that nobody else has, but you aren't the same person you've always been. I know it is hard to believe but you will find that special someone and they will love you for you and not care that you have a special part. Take care I care. Cathy

Depending on how bad your colitis was before, I'd get it removed sooner than later. One month after my colectomy, my colitis came back severly in my rectal stump. I have been in constant pain since. Its going to be removed a week from tomorrow when they create my j-pouch. I cant wait for it to be gone. As it is now, I cant sit flat on my behind. Its amazing how painful such a small section of tissue can cause. I also have to go to the...

That sounds great!! Good for you for moving forward. There are plenty of people who could careless about if a person has an ostomy. Find one of them!! Overcoming trails and challenges makes one smarter, tougher, more compassionate, ( I could go on but you know what I mean) and you are in that wonderful category. Let us know how it goes.

well im glad the remicade worked for you! it worked for me right away too. And it is better to have surgery when you are healthy much easier to heal. However be aware that remi can fail, and for me, when it failed, i went down hill fast. Maybe just keep having surgery sooner than a year in the back of your mind. Im not sure why you think you would throw up after surgery. Some people do i ...

wow.. part 28 already! Rosemary, thanks for starting a new thread! It is just scary to read your surgical nightmare, and more scary to know that one was "America's Top Doctors"! I think a lot of us (me included) go by some of those reports. How could you know to ask for something other then barium, or for that matter to even ask for a barium enema!? Even reading here on this forum.. I wasn't ...

Hi jtaylor,
I have been a crohns sufferer for 21 years now and has resulted in permanent ileostomy my surgeon also removed my rectum in July of this year. I had my entire colon removed as well and was never an option for a reversal for me. Chat to your surgeon in detail before you have any reversal surgery as I have been told that it is rarely sucessful to have reversal surgery when you have...

I dont know how she is, but could you put some type of clothing over her bag that she couldnt remove? That way she couldnt tear the bag off. And if she went with a jpouch, she would only have the bag for a few months. And maybe if you got her some neat covers for her bag she might like that. Im sorry i cant be much help. there is a site, and i think its dragonkids.com or somethign like that,...

Hi UC mom. I had the two step surgery with the second surgery on the 2 of Nov. so I am almost 3 weeks post op. I too have intermittent bleeding which my surgeon said is normal given the fact that the pouch is still healing, expanding and getting used to it's new function. I was able to decrease bowel movements with Immodium (going 10 + times/ day also). I take one at lunch and the other at ...

Hi there! I just read your post and since I just had a ventral hernia repair (5 weeks ago) thought I would tell you how it went for me...The hernia was at the stomas site. I went in for surgery on Monday morning (no prep for this except no eating after midnight). I woke up with pain (of course) but it was well controlled with meds. I could have come home the same day after the surgery but I...

I had lots of accidents pre-surgery, and luckily all of them happened at home. I also had way too many close calls out in public. Talk about stressful! In almost 4 years with an ostomy, I've never had an accident. I agree that being afraid of accidents with an ostomy doesn't make much sense to me either, but that's probably because I have one and know that it's nothing that I need to worry...

Lakelyn, I read your post a little while ago and thought someone with more experience would answer you. My ostomy is new as of the end of June '09 so you could probably tell me a thing or two. I can tell you what I've done recently and mine is lasting 3-4 days. I use the moldable convatec wafer, you can stretch it when you put it on and it will snug up to the stoma, I also use an eakin seal ...

Stacey - My symptoms stated when I was about 12 and now I am 35. I had a sub-total colectomy when I was 24. It improved my bowel habits quite a bit. Like you, no laxatives would work for me prior to the surgery. After the surgery, I could take laxatives to have BMs. However, laxatives are habit forming. I wanted to be laxative free. It has taken years of surgeries and Dr's to get ...

Good Grief, Slaon Kettering! I guess the "see if we care" attitude is in some surprising places. I had irreversible damage to my rectum, pelvic muscles, and colon and severe scarring of my small intestine in a surgery at a large medical center where I live. Took 13 months, 11 docs and 7 med centers nationwide to figure out what could be done to save my life. Had the adhesions taken off my ...
